This is a small thing, but it bugs me every time! When I apply a refund to a transaction, Online Credit Card isn’t a choice for the Payment Type. There’s offline credit card, cash, check and others, but nothing to choose for online credit card payment, which is the only payment we accept. Why is that? I can just keep choosing Other method of payment, and everything will be fine, but maybe I’m doing something wrong and this is where it’s showing up. Curious.

Hi there,

So the reason we didn’t include ‘Online Credit Card’ in the payment choices by default is that implies the payment can be processed through EE when in the amdin, it can’t. So if we added that in the default options we would then get a bunch of questions as to how you process online cards.

But.. those listed options are a combination of default payment methods to select and also build from your active payment methods.

So, if you don’t use one of the offline payment methods, what you can do is ‘repurpose’ one of them for this use case. For example check, if you don’t use check as a selectable payment method on the checkout then go to:

Event Espresso -> Payment methods.

Click check in the tabs (if its not activated, activate it)

Set the Admin-Only Description value to be ‘Online Credit Card’.

(If you don’t want this option to be available on the front end for users, look for the ‘Usable From?’ option and UNcheck ‘Front-end Registration Page’)

Then save.

Now check will display as ‘Online Credit Card’ in that dropdown.

If you don’t want to use the check payment method there is also the option of using the Flexible payment method for this:

Thats basically an additional offline payment method to use for whatever you prefer.

Does that help?

Yes that helps. I actually used the Bank Transfer payment method, since I’m sure we’ll never use that. Can I update any of the other fields (besides just the admin description) so I don’t confuse myself later?

Sure you can!

Admin-only fields are only shown in the admin, some of the other have the chance of being displayed front-end… but only if you enable that payment method on the front end.

So update whatever you prefer in those sections, I’d advise you do NOT empty the fields but set a relevant value and it should be fine.
