I have just updated to EE4 from EE3. If I want to reactivate EE3 in order to access information contained there, such as descriptions and e-mail forms, will I be able to deactivate it when I am through and reactivate EE4?

Yes you can.

EE4 runs completely separate from EE3 and uses its own set of tables.

EE4 does however change then shortcodes used on the EE critical pages, so EE3 will not function (taking front end registrations) when you re-activate it as the pages will be using the EE4 shortcodes.

Just be sure to only have 1 version of EE active at any one time, if you activate both together a fatal error will be thrown and you’ll need to rename one of the EE plugin directories via FTP to gain access to the Dashboard again.

So, do I need to copy the EE4 shortcodes and re-enter them into the EE3 pages should I activate EE3? Or will EE3 revert to using its own short codes?

Hi Stephen,

The information is stored in separate database tables so it will still be there.

Note that the registration process will not work since the shortcodes are different but you’ll be able to retrieve old event and attendee information as needed.
