Questions on Incomplete registrations and payment status

I didn’t successfully find answers to these questions when I did a search, so I apologize in advance if I was just being a bad searcher 😉

My questions have to do with registrations that are incomplete (or pending, which is how I set them) and how an attendee can complete the registration.

From what I see, the EE forms are filled out and then the user gets a “Confirm Registration” button.  This take them to a summary which includes their unique registration ID and a link (or links) to payment gateways.  In my case it’s just PayPal.

At this point, if they exit my site or cancel their PayPal transaction, there is a record in the EE event details for that registration.  I can choose to send an invoice to them and this works… but this is where I am having problems.

1. is there a way to automatically send the invoice to a user who has done the “Confirm Registration” step but has not paid?  The reason for this is because without this, I as the event admin need to proactively send out the invoices as opposed to the user getting the invoice automatically and acting on completing the payment/registration when they choose.

2. The email that is sent to the incomplete registrant has a link to “view invoice” or “see payment details” which takes them to a EE screen that has their info, how much is outstanding and their payment ID.  I don’t see anything that would then allow them to complete their payment.  Am I missing something?

Andrew,

1. Yes, you can customize the email they receive upon clicking Confirm Registration. As you stated, they already receive a link to payment details, but you can create custom emails in Email Manager, then apply the custom email to the event with the Event Overview.

2. It sounds like you need to set up your payment gateway in Event Espresso > Payment Settings.

Thanks for the response… but I think I need to clarify my points:

1. I understand you can customize the email they get, but (in my setup at least), if the user does not complete the payment at PayPal, then no email is sent out.  It’s that email that I would like to enable my users to register now and pay later.

2. My PayPal settings are fine.  I do get the PayPal logo/link on first run through the registration process but when users go *back* to complete their registration, there is no payment gateway link.  I am referring to “event-registration-payment-page/?r_id=2-51af91bfc593f” as the URL.  I think the intent is for the payment gateway link to be on this page but it’s not.  Therefore, a user cannot complete his registration.

thanks

Hi Andrew,

1) You can send out the registration email before payment. Go to the General Settings > Email Settings section and change “Send registration confirmation emails before payment is received?” to Yes.

2) Also in the General Settings, but in the Optional Event Settings section change “Show payment options for “Pending Payments” on the Payment Overview page?” to yes. This will show gateways when a user returns to the payment page.

No problem, we have a lot of settings, sometimes these things are easily overlooked, which is why were are here 🙂
