Hi, we currently use EE3 and I’ve been keeping an eye on the EE4 progress and with the pre-release of the promotions piece, I wanted to determine if EE4 is ready for my organization to transition to.

Within EE3, we currently use multiple question groups and promotion codes within the core EE3 and use the following add-ons: Calendar, Members add on, Multi Event Registration, Permissions, API Plugin (for use with mobile app), and Volume discounts (beta version).

I believe that most of this (if not all) now exists within EE4, but my main question is around the registration component. We are currently using Multi Event Registration to allow group registrations of different ticket types/prices, requiring the same information for all. Does this capability exist within EE4? Also, do you foresee any issues with any of the above if we were to transition to EE4?

Thanks!

We also use the Stripe payment gateway and invoices – both of which appear to exist in EE4.

Hi Remi,

Yes it does.

Within EE4 core you can assign multiple different tickets to an event, then use the Ticket Selector (which is a little like the MER cart you are used to) which is included within ALL your events. So you can provide tickets like 2 x Adult tickets and 1 x Child ticket within a registration right?

The best way to see this is to test it out yourself to see what I mean. Create a site over at http://demoee.org/ and create an event, that way you get a feel for how its set up 🙂

I would like to mention that the Members Add-on for EE4 is currently a little different than EE3, it depends on what you used it for. So, did you use the my events section of EE3 Members or was it more to just set events to member only?

Also the EE3 ticketing apps are not compatible with EE4. We have the EE4 Printable Tickets Add-on and the EE4 Ticket Scanning Add-on but not a full app integration currently.

(It is possible to scan tickets with a mobile device, but differently than with a dedicated app, see HERE)

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the additional information. I checked out the demo and it appears to have everything we need from the registration perspective.

For the members add-on, we are primarily using it for the my events section so users can pull historical invoices if needed. Is this feature available as part of EE4 core or an add-on? This is not critical, but helps reduce email requests for invoices.

We use the mobile app mainly to track number of registrations – more for convenience, not a requirement.

In looking at EE4 and the add-ons, it appears I have access to most of them, but I don’t have events table view, people add-on, or WP user integration add-on? Is it possible to get access to these or would I need to upgrade my subscription to the EE4 Everything?

Thanks!

Hi Remi, I’ve updated your account for you to add those equivalent add-ons for Event Espresso 4.

Thanks

Currently this isn’t included within the EE4 Users Add-on.

There is a section within the User Profile that lists the users registrations but they can not download Invoices from that section – http://take.ms/rwXro

We are working on adding this to the EE4 User Add-on so that users can view/download the invoices from there but that currently is not included.

Thanks all for your help. I plan on upgrading our site in the next week and may need to create an additional ticket if I can’t get some of our customizations to work in EE4.

Thanks again for the information!

Hi Remi,

Just a quick note when updating to EE4.

First, be sure you have at least a database backup before attempting the upgrade (full site backup is best)

Also I would recommend creating a development copy of the site (either locally or using a subdomain on your current server) and performing the upgrade there first.

This isn’t intended to scare you off of EE4 (far from it, its awesome) but if you do run into any problems, we can then help work through them on the development copy away from view of your visitors so that once you upgrade the production site there shouldn’t be any issues.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the additional information. One more quick question. I need to upgrade WordPress as well during this process. Should I update WordPress before activating EE4 or vice versa?

Thanks,
Remi
