Hi,

I created a new topic because the old one was closed. I checked the questions and there are no quote or other special character issues.

Also, the edit attendee screen is extremely slow to load. I would estimate there are 100 questions. Speed otherwise is fine. Could this be related?

Hi Dan,

With 100-399 questions, it will slow the back end down as it searches for all the questions, though I cannot see this affecting the front end data as the info is saved to a different database table etc.

Of the questions you listed on the previous post, some did contain “double quote” marks. Did you go into those questions and update them?

Hi,

Even a 30 seconds to a minute? Doesn’t that seem like a long time? I have monitored resources on the server and that is not an issue.

Yes, I checked the questions and all are escaped.

Also, I have seen instances where when the page finally renders there are no questions listed at all even though there should be. All this after it churns for a while.

Hi Dan,

Yes that is an overly long time to display that data. I havent heard of it being an issue before, but honestly, not sure many other people use that number of questions so perhaps it simply hasnt been noticed before.

Is it possible to get your login details in order to look into this?

If so, please send them via https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

NOTE: login details need to be Admin level.

Hi Dean,

I sent the login info to Josh because you weren’t an option on the list of support staff.

Thanks.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for sending those details in. Regarding the loading time for questions, 403 questions loaded for me in 4-5 seconds.

Regarding the questions not saving, its really difficult to advise what the issue is here.

Have you or a developer modified the core plugin in any way?

I see that you have 3 thirdparty add ons designed to work with EE but even after deactivating them, the Add New Attendee screen is still showing this http://d.pr/i/AwOo which is not default behaviour of the plugin.

As such I believe it is a modification to the core files or via a thirdparty plugin that is causing this issue.

Hi Dan,

I see that you’ve purchased a priority support token. I logged in over FTP and there are several core Event Espresso files that have been modified, and the files that have been modified are files that contain functions that are used when saving attendee registrations.

Here is what I can recommend to fix your issues:

1) Make a backup of your current event-espresso plugin directory off of the server.

2) Download a fresh copy of Event Espresso from your account page.

3) Deactivate Event Espresso.

4) Upload the un-modified copy of Event Espresso to your server in the place of the modified version.

5) Reactivate Event Espresso.

Hi Josh,

I will try that however those changes were added to avoid the issue in the first place. Since questions were not saving on the add attendee page we modified it to only show the name, save that and then redirect to the edit page.

Performance when opening an attendee is abysmal, was before, still is. There must be something recursively happening or some sort of timeout.

Hi Dan,

I can mention this to the dev team, to be honest this isn’t something we’ve run into before. We have had customers report back that they had over 100 questions in the system and it worked okay, but over 400 is quite a bit more.

One thing that may help is you could check to see if the memory is running low, it may be possible to upgrade the server as well.

Well, the performance issue is solved. There are no indexes on the EE tables. I added some and performance is a lot better. You guys should consider including indexes for question/answer related data as the answer table can grow large quickly even without quite so many questions.

Hi,

I reinstalled EE 3.1.29.1.P and it has this same issue of not saving answers on the add an attendee page. I will send you access to the test bed I did this on.

Hi Dan,

I thought you solved the issue?

Anyway, I tried the URL you sent, and it’s taking me to a DNS not loading page.

Sorry, had it in my hosts file. I added DNS for it and it’s resolving for me.

Hi Josh,

I solved the performance issue we were having by adding indexes to question/answer related tables.

I brought up the performance issue while discussing the real issue of this thread which is the add attendee page doesn’t save question data for my custom question groups. The edit screen does however.

I setup a test bed with a copy of the site and re-installed the version of EE we are using. I tested the add attendee function and it still doesn’t work.

Hi Dan,

I spent quite a bit of time (a lot more than the 30 minutes of the support token allows for) looking into this. Some of the questions are being saved, but the majority are not.

One thing that I tried that led to an interesting result was I created a test event and set it to include only the first one of the 4 custom question groups that the event you linked to earlier had. All of the questions saved when I tested this. I’m wondering if there’s a limit being hit here when it’s trying to save the answers.
