hi guys.

I am running EE 4.4.5 on my website

http://www.amsn.com.au

I wish to be able to grant some of our guest speakers rights to be able to edit the event but not full admin acess. The problem im having is that any user account I create with less than full admin acess does not have appear to have editing acess on my website.

I tried setting up a esspresso master admin level user name but even that did not appear to grant acess.

any further info you could provide or suggestions would be most welcome.

cheers
Brent

Hi Brent,

Right now the users will need to be given the manage_options capability in order to get access to EE. This should all change in the future (tentatively 4.6) where much finer capability control will be introduced.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry Dean just to clarify is there anyway I can add the ” manage_options ” to an editor account in wordpress or is the admin account the only one that has this previlege.

cheers
Brent

Hi Brent,

Yes you can add it, though you will need to either use a Roles and Capabilities plugin (there are lots out there, and they are the easiest way to handle it) or a code function to modify it.

An example plugin (first one off Google) https://wordpress.org/plugins/capability-manager-enhanced/

mmmmm this is a strange one.

I used all your suggested plugin. played around for hours even turning on every possible setting to allowed and still EE did show up in the dashboard.

I downloaded and installed another plugin ” user role editor ” that had a very high amounts of downloads. Again no matter how many permission I switch on the only thing that seems to work is changing the user admin role to ” admin “.

I even tried cloning the admin permission settings to create a new user type called ” amsnspeaker ” and even with all boxes still ticket EE fails to appear in the left hand column of the dashboard.

I will send you login details for both the admin account and the editor account I have created to the support email adress in case I have missed something simple.

Perhaps I will have to wait to wait until the upgrade. It really would be a dream for me to have our speakers get limited access to the events page to to be able to add their own content.

sorry to give you more work but I did try for hours. If its not easy dont wast time on it Im sure you have more urgent problems to solve ๐Ÿ™‚

I think I owe you an apology.

It seems the capabilities are only from EE 4.5.0 forward rather than 4.4.5 that was in my head, so I am really sorry for wasting your time with that!

I think what happened was my test install had previously had 4.5 on and it modified the database structure allowing the different capabilities.

However, you could use this function allow it in the current version: https://gist.github.com/joshfeck/1f89ac4e0fd7f536f2cb

More on 4.5.0 capabilities :

4.5 is currently available in the Pre Release channel.

ha no worries at all mate you guys are doing a great job and your tech support is the best of any wordpress ap I have ever used. I have got many people onto EE already (except my competition )

Im sure I could figure out your suggested hack but before I try whats your best guess on when EE 4.5 will be released ?

Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

With 4.5 being in Pre Release already it won’t be long before it becomes a formal release – we are just finishing off testing, getting feedback from any users who test the beta version and making it as stable as possible before formally releasing it.

As of writing we have 11 open tickets for it which is not very many at all, so unless something unexpected happens I would hope it would be out very shortly, perhaps a week or two (that’s a complete guess, please don’t hold me to it!).
