I am having issues with event start/end time to events. The times change when I update the event. I was told by Go Daddy support that I needed to purchase the the update licence event to espresso 4. When I did this, it caused a website error. Go Daddy had me uninstall the update to get website back up. Do I need to click on support license keys (green button) for the update to work?

Hi there,

Your site is currently running EE3 but it looks like you’ve purchased an EE4 license, are you looking to switch over to EE4 or continue to use EE3?

Note EE4 is not ‘just an update’ to EE3 and works very differently, it may need additional changes to your site/theme if you haven’t updated it in a while.

Is it necessary to purchase the EE4? The only issue I am having is a glitch in the start/end time of my event. The times automatically change when I post on the event on the website. I don’t want to make changes to my site/theme if possible. I was told the “update” would fix the glitch.

So, GoDaddy has given you the correct advice in that you do need to update but not for Event Espresso 4.

I think right now the best thing you can do is switch to an EE3 license and get the latest version of EE3 installed, that should fix the date issue for you.

To explain a little WordPress changed how they handle Dates/Times within core so if you updated WordPress but not EE3 you run into an issue as WP now expects them to be X but with older versions use Y (I’m trying not to go into too much details, just explain what has happened a little).

On your account page here:

You can switch your license, select EE3 Personal License and follow the steps to change your license over. That will give your account access to both EE3 and EE4.

Once you’ve done that, create a backup of your site just to be safe and then you should just be able to automatically update EE3 to the latest version. If it doesn’t show an update go to Event Espresso -> General Settings.

Hit the save button to force and update check, does it show an update for EE3 in Dashboard -> Plugins?

I just talked to the previous assistant who handled the website and she said for our needs, she used the free version and it worked fine. Is that not an option anymore?
We have less than 5 events a year.

Event Espresso Lite was deprecated a while back and hasn’t been updated to work with the latest WP changes so you’ll need the full version to fix the issue you are having with dates.
