I am using Event Espresso – Promotions (EE 4.8+). It worked until I updated event espresso. Now when I fill out the form it gives an error. Help I really need this.

Hi there,

Do you have the current version of the Promotions add-on? Can you post the error message so we can investigate further?

Version 1.0.8.p. Up to date on espresso and wordpress. After filling out registration for it says when we try to get to payment page. This does not match any registrations. It doesnt even get to coupon. Worked with older version of espresso.

This doesn’t sound like an issue with the Promotions add-on.

Does the actual error message say “A valid transaction could not be initiated for processing your registrations” ?

If so, is the reCaptcha module activated in Event Espresso > Registration Form Settings? Can you try disabling it?

When I activate the promotions then it breaks. After filling out the attendee info page and pushing the button payment options it says:
Error: Your form data could not be applied to any valid registrations

When I turn off the promotions plugin it works fine.

Does the error occur when only the Event Espresso 4 core plugin and the Promotions add-on are activated, that’s with no other plugins activated on the site?

OK The culprit seems to be W3 Total cache. It wasnt a problem before. So what can I put in W3 total cache and where to fix the problem? I read some of the instructions before but didnt understand them. Thanks.

Hello this is a big deal right now. How do I use a caching program and the promotion plugin?

Hello,

You’ll want to exclude your Event Espresso pages from being cached in W3 total cache. We have a guide for doing that in W3 total cache here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/setup-nocache-exclusion-rules-event-espresso/#w3totalcache

I have them excluded:
wp-.*\.php
index\.php
/events/
/registration-checkout/
/transactions/
/thank-you/
/registration-cancelled/

But this hasnt helped the promotions.

Hi,

Do you have the database caching option on in W3 total cache?

If so, try turning that off since a promotion code is checked in real time.

Hi, you may want to try an alternative caching plugin like WP Super Cache (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-super-cache/) instead.

I can’t imagine how it would it worked before with W3 Total Cache. We generally see all kinds of things break with that particular caching plugin depending on how it’s set up.

One thing to keep in mind is W3 Total Cache can still serve cached files even if it’s deactivated. This is because it writes to your site’s .htacess file where it directs the server to use the files it wrote to a cache.

Lorenzo’s advice to use WP Super Cache as an alternative is solid. Many other users of Event Espresso have much success with WP Super Cache, one reason being it’s simple to set up.
