Hello,
I searched the topics and did not see an answer to this. We are trying to set up a membership type of card. The only work around we found was to add a promotion code for each membership. For example, the customer would purchase a card for $115 but only pay $100. If they use this code for $115 and registered for a class that was $15, would the promotion code have a balance of $100 that they could use for another class in the future. Or would the promotion code by completed.
Of course if there is another way to use a membership card, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.
Thank you!

Hi Laura,

I’m not sure if I’m getting the point you want to achieve. Can you please give us some more information for better understanding?

Hello,
Thank you for the response. We would like to provide a membership for our classes. It is basically a discount card that you would purchase. I thought maybe we could use the promotion add on for this purpose. The customer would purchase the membership card for $100. We would provide them with a promotion code for $125 off of our classes. They could then add the promotion code at check out. My question is if the customer has a balance of $125, then they register for $75 worth of classes, will they be able to use the remaining $50 balance at a later date for a different class session. Does the promotion code keep a running balance. I also wasn’t sure if there was an easier way of doing this. Because it will be very cumbersome to make a promotion code for each membership. Thank you for your assistance.

Does the promotion code keep a running balance
No, we don’t have that option at the moment. It will not store the ‘remaining’ discount for further use say you have a gift card for $100 and an event cost you $62, that counts as a ‘use’ of the promotion code, the $38 remaining is effectively ‘lost’.

You may want to check the EE expert. Check them here.

Thank you. Do you know of any other work around for us to do a membership type of system? I can’t imagine we are the only company that wants to offer a membership/discount card. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi there,

I need to prefix this to make sure it’s clear that that isn’t something we officially support and it’s not a feature within Event Espresso. So whilst I’m happy to send you what I have, it won’t work for all use cases and was originally intended as a proof of concept for a developer to work on custom code.

So we don’t have promotions that retain value, they are either accepted, or not, an then once accepted that usage counts towards the promotions ‘uses’ values as a whole.

However, it’s possible to use some custom code to do what I think you are requesting above:

https://gist.github.com/Pebblo/c2dd51d7b5e117810d9b5b70b9366b87

Add that to a custom functions plugin:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/create-site-specific-plugin-wordpress-site/

That snippet will reduce the ‘value’ of a dollar discount code based on the amount of the transaction ($100 discount code, purchase 2 x $10 tickets, reduces the promotion to $80), once it reaches 0 it sets the expiry date of the promotion code to be ‘now’ so that its then considered expired.

It sounds like that’s what you are looking for here and your welcome to use the above, as long as you are aware that it’s not officially supported by Event Espresso. There isn’t any crazy hackery going on with the above, all it does is reduce the value of a promotion and set its expiration date so it’s not risky as such, just not an official feature.
