While it is nice to see the Social Sharing Add On, and other bells & whistles for EE4, but what about the basic functionality still needed to be migrated from EE3? We have been waiting a long time for a lot of things to get the full advantage of the upgrade, especially promo codes. Enough icing, how about some actual cake?

Hi Deborah,

How are you today?

Thank you for your feedback. There are many layers of this cake in development, and I will try to expose them for you.

– We have made significant changes to the messaging system so you can create custom messages for each even, save custom messages and reuse them, but also use the messaging system for invoices and receipts. This will allow for much more flexible control over the format for invoices and receipts. This is now available 4.5 in the pre-release channel.
– Core gateway processing methods are being rebuilt to provide added flexibility and increase the rate at which we can make more gateways available for Event Espresso 4. This is a foundational layer of the cake that will allow the cake to be larger (with add-on functionality specific for gateways) and more grand and customized (by a developer) for the individual user. This gateway rewrite has recently finished and is being tested internally. It will be available in 4.6.
– The checkout process has been retooled to proved added flexibility. We have added systems in place so you can rearrange or skip parts of the checkout process. This is also completed and being tested internally. It will be available in 4.6.
– Printable Tickets are available in the Pre-release Channel to those who have access to it for Event Espresso 3.
– Ticket Scanning is also available in the Pre-release Channel to those who have access to it for Event Espresso 3.
– Promotion codes has been in development for several months, but it had to be delayed so we could finish the gateway rewrite since the promotion codes system will require integration with the new gateway methods. We can’t put the cart before the horse.
– We have already released several add-ons that people have asked for: Calendar, MailChimp, Infusionsoft, Event List Templates, etc. Those are not trivial to some businesses who rely on Event Espresso.
– These more simple add-ons, “icing” you call it, are pieces of functionality that can be made available rather quickly. Where as the more substantial layers of the cake usually takes months to retool, test and release. It would be a disservice to the users who can use the existing layers of the cake without the more substantial layers of the cake like promotions. If we did all the deep layers of the cake first then Event Espresso might not be suitable for everyone who is using it now.
– We are working as quickly as we can to release promotions and other features. We are also evaluating our development and release processes in hope to speed up that development. However, we continue to make Event Espresso 3 available for those who do need functionality that is not available with Event Espresso 4.

We do appreciate your feedback, and I hope that adds context to the situation.

Hi Garth
A) I really appreciate your reply with the cake metaphor intact. Big points for that.
B) I guess we will continue to wait for the promo/discount codes. We have a work around for now, but it gets confusing for the site user, when registering.

Would be possible to add to the Method of Payment choice list (on the backend) “Discount” or something along those lines? It makes it easier on our book keeper. I see that other additional choices have been added since earlier versions .

Thanks
Stephen (for CMC)

A) Cool, was kind of fun.
B) Are you asking if you can have a custom payment method for your organization that is only available on the back-end?

Not really a custom payment method (or maybe I am). Right now, our work around is to have a discounted registrant proceed with the registration without paying. Once in the system, one of us go in to the “Apply Payment” screen and (currently) apply a payment as Cash (no one pays Cash) and making a notation of “ADMIN CHANGE” in the PO/SO Field. Then re-invoice for the adjusted amount. While this kind of works, it is confusing to the registrant to see a cash payment and to our book keeper, who lacks a sense of humor about such things.

If it showed “Discount” it would be more clear to all. Would this be difficult?

Better still would be Promo Code functionality (I couldn’t resist, sorry)

Hi,

What if you used specific messaging that your bookkeeper could easily recognize?

Something like this:

ADMIN ADJUSTMENT – Discount

Starting today, current support license holders can opt in to the pre-release channel and download the Event Espresso 4.7 and Promotion add-on pre-releases.

We’d love to get your feedback on some of the new promotion features and changes that we’ve been working on. These include:

  • New interface for managing promocodes
  • Promo code discounts now apply to entire order instead of per ticket
  • Promo code generator
  • Automatic (non-promo-code) discounts
  • Discounts limited by quantity
  • Discounts limited by start date and end date
  • A widget for displaying non-promo-code discounts
  • A shortcode for displaying non-promo-code discounts
Important: The Event Espresso 4 promotions add-on will activate only if Event Espresso 4.7 is active. This means you’ll need to install the Event Espresso 4.7 pre-release before installing the promotions add-on.

If you haven’t already opted into Event Espresso’s pre-release channel, you can go to your account page and check the box to opt in to the pre-release channel. Once you opt in, the download files will be available under the EE4 tab under the Pre Release Downloads heading.

You can find out more information about in the pre-release channel guide.

If you have feedback about Promotions or the 4.7 release, please reply to that Promotions announcement or start another new topic.
