Hi there! On one of our websites we built for a client using Event Espresso, they set up two promo codes, “Desk” and “desk”. They did this so if they sign someone up using their iPad, they can enter a promo with a capital letter (which capitalizes the first letter by default). However only one of the promo code worked. Since then, we disabled the “Desk” promo code and the only one we have left is “desk”.

The promo codes don’t seem case sensitive, because if we enter “DESK”, it applies the discount. However, if they enter “Desk”, it does not. So, if we want users to be able to use all variations of a promo code (“desk”, “DESK”, “Desk” etc) how to we make that work? Because it seems that if we set up multiple promo codes using the same word, it doesn’t work. Thanks.

HI Bryan,

I just want to verify that when you create the various iterations of the discount code (e.g. “desk”, “DESK”, “Desk” etc.) that you are also applying that discount code to the event(s) also? The codes are not automatically applied. Just want to check on that before we start digging through code.

Garth –

Yes, they have applied all promo codes to the events. Thanks.

Hi Bryan,

If the only reason they are wanting to add multiple codes with the same letters, just different capitalization is because of the iPad issue, then since the code is accepted in any caps, why would you need multiple? I hope my question makes sense.

Jonathan, the problem is that it doesn’t accept in any caps case. The logic of it confuses me, because “desk” will work, and “DESK” will work, but “Desk” does not.

Is there a way to edit the registration details once they are made including:
prom code and options?

Hi Bryan,

It looks like we are going to have to refactor the promo code system from the ground up for 3.2. What I would suggest in the meantime is to use promo codes in all caps. That’s a common design pattern for promo codes to use all caps.

Hi agrant,

In the future, can you start a new topic please? This helps keeps the forums organized.

To answer your question, these things can be changed in the admin, with the exception of price options. There isn’t a price option selector in the admin.
