Promo Code Discount Code Applied to Unpaid Transaction on Past Events

We have an unpaid or open transaction for an event that occurred in the past. We wish to apply a promo code to that transaction from admin area. We see the following error:

The promotion code entered could not be processed for an unknown reason. You are welcome to try a different promotion code or to try this one again to ensure it was entered correctly.

Hi there,

Is this a global promotion or a promotion that only applies to specific events?

If the latter, I’m guessing you’ve checked that the promotion applies to the event in question?
