Promo Add On and Multi Cart Add On Issues

I have both the promotions add on, and the multi registration add on. I need to create a discount that can be used 1 time for any event a user registers for. However no matter what settings I use in EE4/Promo add on, if the user has 3 different classes in their cart, the code gets applied 3 times instead of just once on the whole cart. Help!

Hi there,

We don’t currently have an option to apply a promotion to the cart as a whole.

Promotions apply to events themselves and if you have a promotion that applies to all events it will apply to each event in the cart as you’ve found.

Thanks, are there plans to address this gap? Unfortunately this means users can either use the promotions add on, or they can use the MER plugin, but not both. Otherwise, any dollar based promotion created will always give the user massive more money off than it should even when limit is set to 1. Alternatively, if you can fix the bug where when they apply a promo code when using MER, it doesn’t respect the max uses of 1? It changes it to, in my case 3 uses because there were three different events. Thanks.

Eventually, we’d like to add additional ‘scopes’ to the promotions add-on, for example, a ticket scope which means a promotion can be applied to a specific ticket.

For your use case, you’d likely need a ‘cart’ scope, meaning you can set the promotion to apply to the cart as a whole.

It may be possible to hook into the promotion function, apply the promotion to the first item in the cart and then drop out of the function as stop gap. I can’t see a way to do this currently but have requested some feedback from our developers to confirm.

Alternatively, if you can fix the bug where when they apply a promo code when using MER, it doesn’t respect the max uses of 1? It changes it to, in my case 3 uses because there were three different events. It changes it to, in my case 3 uses because there were three different events.

That’s actually not a bug and working exactly how it was designed to.

The ‘uses’ field is ‘uses per scope item’ and as the promotions can only apply to events currently that means if it’s a use of 1 is once per event it applies to. If you have a promotion that applies to multiple/all events it can be used once on each of those events, regardless of whether or not you use MER.

Use the promotion on Event A and checkout, then on Event B and checkout and you’ll get the same result, what you can’t do is use a promotion with a use of 1 twice on the same event.
