a front end user tried to purchase two tickets using EE via PayPal and received a popup message which read
An error has occurred:
The requested form action “process_gateway_response” does not exist for the current “Attendee Information” registration step.
On the backend of the WP installation, in EE it shows that the transaction is incomplete. Was this due to the end user not following all the way through PayPal with the steps necessary to complete payment. or is there something in EE that caused this?
EE Version 4.9.78.p (something broke in EE when I tried to upgrade to 4.9.79p)

May I ask is the site using PayPal Express or PayPal Standard?
As an aside, what broke when you tried to update to 4.9.79?

the template itself broke (Using Hestia Version 2.3.0) I’m hesitant to try to update EE now since this is now a live, production site, and do not want to lose the ee functionality.
(I setup the WP for a “client” and recommended EE for their needs, I am not actively involved in the transactional side with their PayPal)

I’ve not seen that error message before and I do not know what would have happened to get that error message. With PayPal Express, when the end user hits the Pay Now button they’re immediately redirected to the Thank you page on the EE-powered website, so I don’t think it was a matter of them not completing the steps.
With regards to Hestia, have you tried the current version (2.4.2)? That version seems to work OK with the current master version of Event Espresso.

I will pass along that information to my client. I assumed it was end-user error.
I have updated my EE to 4.9.79p and my Hestia to 2.4.2. It appears to be working as needed.
