So the app was throwing up the Missing permissions error, have tried editing the .htaccess file and the rest of the troubleshoot options and old suggests. Looking at the error log we are getting
What do I need to do to fix this…here’s the panic the events start in under a week! |
Hi there, Are those the only warnings that are in the log? Those warnings are basically saying ‘EE couldn’t start a session, because something has already start output to the page’, so they are a symptom of a problem rather than the cause. Unfortunately, finding the cause can be tricky with the above as it could be almost anywhere in your site. Its often the themes’s functions.php file has a closing PHP tag ( Is the site a part of a multi-site network? |
Hi Tony, I tried changing theme and no difference (used a blank theme). The first issue we have is with the mobile app saying “Sorry, you are not allowed to list events, Missing permission etc. All the permissions are in place. been in contact with my host about it and they can see that EE4 is trying to create HTMLin response before session start. I have followed what is on the #troubleshoot page and it makes no difference. Stumped |
I looked the site health section under tools and it was saying:
So i installed: JWT Authentication for WP-API as per a suggestion in another post and now the error on the Mobile App is Authorization header malformed |
If that was actually the case, every EE user would have this problem. Did they provide any details on this or are they basing the above on the warning shown in the logs? Is the site a part of a multi-site network? Looking at your REST API response it looks like you have the JWT Authentication for WP REST API, have you tried temporarily disabling that plugin? |
Hi Tony, I trying all different things to solve this, those errors might have come up when JWT Authentication for WP-API was installed. That changes the error to Authorization header malformed. No part of a multi-site network the events website is a subdomain of c-r-y.org.uk but we have never had this issue before. Happy to give someone access to have a look. The only real help my host has been, is to send me this:
Please de-active that plugin so I can take a look at the REST Response without it.
Ok, thank you.
If you’d like for us to troubleshoot this directly on your site you would need to purchase a support token.
The response from the host doesn’t really help, they basically rephrased the notice from
EE4 is not trying to create HTML in the response before session_start, EE is trying to start a session, using session_start(), but can’t because something has already sent output. You’re going to get that notice on every request until you find the cause. |
Hi Tony, The REST API plugin has now been deactivated. Thank you |
Support token purchased and submitted as I really need help with this. |
Can you resend the support token form and complete the FTP information part? We’ll need that to find whatever is already sending output. It’s likely a space before an opening PHP tag or something. |
Hi Josh, Ticket resubmitted |
Can you double-check that information? We’re getting an “Authentication Failed” error when trying to connect via FTP. |
Hi Josh, Chasing our host now as we are also getting that error… got to love Fridays! |

I’m curious if you’re testing any of the FTP information you’ve sent. So far we’ve gotten authentication errors and then access to an empty folder on the server. Can you verify the credentials that grant access to the root directory (where the WordPress files are installed)? |

OK the app is working right now. I did need to deactivate WP Maintenance Mode in Settings > WP Maintenance Mode. I’ll see what I can find with the session start errors. |
I’m not seeing any places in the site’s code that jump out as sure-thing causes of the session already started error. One issue that should be addressed is in the wp-config.php file. The line Since this isn’t a multisite site though, the Also, if only recent logs are showing |

Hi Josh, Thank you so much for this! Was rather panicked as it is our main charity event next weekend! Thank you to EE for all the support. |
You’re welcome. |
