Primary Registrant plus everyone else's first name

Hi,

I would like to set up my question field so that I get the primary registrant’s full name and email and then every one else’s first name.

I run a tour company, so it is really desirable to have everyone’s first name written down. However, asking for multiple email addresses is a real impediment to a sale.

How do I set up my questions to achieve this?

Hey Marcus,

Event Espresso requires at minimum the First Name, Last Name, and email address of each registrant. Therefore it isn’t possible to remove those three registration form fields. You can allow them to copy the information from the primary registrations form, but that will auto-populate all of the form data from the primary registrant.

Right, well that’s a bit of a downer.

Let’s think of another way of doing this so. I need the full name of the person who is buying the tickets and their email address. Then I would like them to add in the names of the other people that they are bringing along (presumably in a field that pops up once a second ticket is selected). Now how would I do that?

You actually can capture only the Full Name of additional registrants using a custom question, however all of the registrations will show up in the primary registrants name with the ‘Full Name’ attached as a question.

For example, if you create a custom question group:

Event Espresso -> Registration Form -> Question Groups.

http://take.ms/6Y0wz

You can call that group whatever you prefer.

Now go to the ‘Questions’ tab and create a ‘Full name’ question to go into that group – http://take.ms/d2IS3

Now back to the Question groups tab and open up the group you created earlier. You’ll see the question you created just now in the available questions section – http://take.ms/Fzcbq

Click the check box and save to set that question within the group.

Now in the event, set that new question group to be requested for additional registrants – http://take.ms/MNORsF

When you register onto the event now and select multiple tickets you’ll see this – http://take.ms/treQK

So if I now set something within each of those fields – http://take.ms/J8upZ

The primary reg info at the top was just my name and email

The registrations look like this – http://take.ms/jldJL

Note they are all in my name, because we oly collect person info for the primary reg and use a custom question. Looking within any of the 3 additional registrations you’ll see the answer for that custom question. For example registration 2/4 has this – http://take.ms/bkMpW

Would that work?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for a very detailed and helpful response.

It’s almost there, but I fall into difficulty with the check-boxs for Event Questions for Additional Attendees. I am not being offered the open of a check-box, so I end up with the Personal Information and the new field. How do I find the tick box?

Also, I would like to change the word Attendee to Visitor. Is this possible?

Sorry I’m not sure what this means, can you add some further details please?

Do you mean this section – http://take.ms/MNORsF

Is not showing the option for your new custom question group?

I see this section – http://take.ms/MNORsF – but there is not check-box option for Additional Registrants. It looks like Primary Registrant, Personal Information is automatically included. How do I fix that?

Ah my apologies, you are using EE3 which doesn’t allow for the above (my example is using EE4)

Event Espresso 3 does not allow you to not request the personal information question group for additional registrants so you can’t use the above on that version, you would need to capture the personal info group an use those details.

Eurgh. This is so frustrating.

Ok, new approach. Let’s just say I want someone to be able to buy four tickets. All I need is one name and one email address. How do I do that?

Uncheck all question groups from the additional registrants settings and make sure this setting – http://take.ms/sppOV

Is set to ‘No info required’ for the event.

However if you are using the Multi Event Registration add-on and add multiple ticket types (either from a single event or multiple events) then personal information will be required for each ticket type.

So 4 x a single ticket requires 1 set of Personal Information.

1 x 4 different ticket types (Adult, Child, Couple, Concession) would require 4 sets of info.

The above is a limitation within EE3.

Event Espresso 4 was designed to allow you not to require personal info in the same way EE3 does.

Tony,

This is frustrating beyond belief.

I started out with EE4, but that won’t let me set-up recurring events, so Lorenzo told me to switch to EE3. Now EE3 won’t let me sell multiple tickets without looking for four separate email addresses – A HUGE BARRIER TO SALES.

What I am supposed to do?

I do understand your frustration however the advice to use EE3 for recurring events is correct.

EE4 doesn’t support recurring events, you can create them within EE4 but depending on how many recurrences there are it can become difficult to manage so EE3 is the way to go for those events.

With EE3 each different ticket type within a single group registration will require the primary reg details again although you could use some jQuery to hide the other email fields and auto-fill them using the primary registrants email address input.
