Hi there,

Few questions before we purchased this component:

  • Let’s say we want to set up general early bird discount for all events (let’s say if someone register 2 months or earlier before any event), is that possible or is that a per event discount?<li/>
  • Is it possible to prevent the cumulation of the early bird discount with any pomotional/coupon we would have set up? We don’t want people to actually benefit from the two discounts as the events would be sold too cheap!<li/>
  • I saw on this post the discount per payment method is not available by default. Is that still the case: https://eventespresso.com/topic/discount-applied-depending-on-payment-method/ ?

Thanks for your replies!

Hi there,

Let’s say we want to set up general early bird discount for all events (let’s say if someone register 2 months or earlier before any event), is that possible or is that a per event discount?

You can do that using a ticket within the event itself, set the ticket with a discounted price and then set the sale start and sale end dates to suit your early bird pricing. Like this – http://take.ms/S0Xfj

The early bird discount ticket ends just as the standard ticket goes on sale.

Another option is to apply a promotion code that automatically applies to all events on your site without any intervention from the user, however that will not work with your next requirement….

Is it possible to prevent the cumulation of the early bird discount with any pomotional/coupon we would have set up? We don’t want people to actually benefit from the two discounts as the events would be sold too cheap!

With the above setup (early bird ticket) you can setup Promotion codes that are only valid between specific dates – http://take.ms/A5Z5d

This allows you to set the promotion code to only be available on the event during those dates, so you would set the valid from date to a date after the early bird ticket expires.

I saw on this post the discount per payment method is not available by default. Is that still the case: https://eventespresso.com/topic/discount-applied-depending-on-payment-method/ ?

Yes.

Currently Event Espresso does not officially support adding discounts per payment method, it is possible to do with some custom code but not a part of core.

Have you signed up to Test Drive Event Espresso 4? You can test the full plugin there to see if this will work for you.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I got your point. The conclusion is there’s no way of setting up a global prevention of the promotional code/coupon being applied during early-bird period.
For us it is problematic as we are creating 5 events per week, we have partners that we provide coupons with but we can’t send them new coupons with specific usability dates for each event, it will be a nightmare for us and them.

No idea how to achieve this more globally? Custom dev I guess?

If you want it fully automated then yes, currently you would need custom development.

One way would be to set dates within custom field for the event then remove the promotion input based on those dates.

Eventually the promotion system will add a ‘Ticket’ scope to the promotions that allow you to set promotions on specific tickets, meaning you setup the events in the way I mentioned above and apply the promotion only to the ‘standard’ ticket. We have that on our roadmap here:
