pop-up message when required fields left blank (on submit)

In testing our installation of event espresso, it was noticed that when the user leaves a required field blank, the submit button does nothing. There is no indication to the user that a required field is missing. this is problematic when they have scrolled past the missing required field and it doesn’t show on the screen. I would like to add a pop-up message that says “required field(s) are blank” when the submit button is clicked. How/where do I go about adding this?

Hi there,

There should already be form validation text displayed for every field that doesn’t pass validation. Have you tried ruling out a plugin or theme conflict?

Josh, the form validation text works. However, on a longer form those fields are not always visible when at the bottom of the form and then if you hit the submit button, there is no visual cue as to why the button doesn’t seem to be working.

We’ll look at adding a visual cue then, thanks for the feedback.

So there is not a way for me to add something myself?

That’s not recommended because the next release update of Event Espresso 4 will include this. If you want an early copy of the next release of Event Espresso 4 it’s available on Github:

Also included in the official release that was released today.

Well I updated today to the new version and I still get the same thing; if I leave a required field blank, clicking the submit button (advance to payment options, etc) does nothing. So if I no longer have the missing field on the screen (scrolled past it or whatever), then I cannot see why the form isn’t being submitted.

Are you sure? The reason I ask is because I see a box that lists the missing fields when I try submitting a blank form on your site. Here’s a screenshot:

Hi Josh, I dont see the notice in your screen shot, but I will clear all cookies/tokens/history and also try a different browser. (using chrome).

Hi Josh,

Does this only work if you have scrolled past the fields? I notice now that it works on the pump school form but not on the weftec form, which is shorter. If that is the case, that is OK.

On further testing it looks like this is indeed how it works – thank you! I consider this issue solved.
