When we create new venues and add more than one photo in the body of the post, photos display OK when you view a venue by itself. But when you view a venue attached to an event, various image things don’t work as they normally do in WordPress.
First, photo captions don’t display properly. Instead, they come up as code, eg [caption…]
Second, when text is entered for a description and one or more photos is placed underneath, the usual line of white space between the text and the photos is missing.
Third, WordPress image galleries don’t seem to work at all in the body of an EE Venue. On the front end, all you see is the gallery code, but no images.
We’ve hacked workarounds for all this, as you can see at the bottom of this event page, omitting WordPress image captions and adding a <div style=”margin-top 30px”> around the two photos to give space below the Description text:
But we’d prefer to just be able to display one or two photos for each venue, sometimes with captions, and have them appear properly and also look good in relation to the Description text for that venue without having to add extra code.
I checked on this and the underlying issue here seems to be that a shortcode from the venue description will not parse on the single event page. This is something we can fix in an update.
In the meantime, you can download this template part zip file, unzip, and upload the content-espresso_events-venues.php file to your current WordPress theme. It will allow for displaying shortcodes (like a gallery shortcode) from the venue on the event page.
A little update on this: The last software update for Event Espresso includes a change where we added something to make sure that the gallery shortcode will parse when it’s coming from a Venue Description. This helps avoid the conflict you saw earlier.
