I just saw this thread after posting my own question “Basic registration fields not showing for non-admins” – I’m having the same problem.

Looking at it again the issue originates from last upgrade I did from roles and permissions when we had duplicate personal question groups showing up.
The users that were involved with that issue (event) are the ones that now show the multiple questions associated with there names. It looks to me that the extra questions were created at the time the extra question groups were created, not since the upgrade. I had got into the data base and deleted the duplicate basic question groups at that time. Now that the duplicate questions are showing the groups are not

I also have an on going issue of extremely slow dashboard- my sp traced it io wp plug ins . he globily disabled all plug ins by renaming the plugin folder to demonstrate the issue, speeding up the site dashboard. I am cuurently running on minimal plugins but have not found the offending plugin yet.

found the wp_events_question data base and deleted the mupliple questions not associated with user 1. there were about 50 of them! Did not fix the problem. I think this issue is assocaited with the bug I had in the past version upgrade leaving unexpected data for the current version – need help!

Well, okay, but I was asking for the user ID in the database of your admin user. We had an issue recently where the user ID in the wp_users table was not aligned with the wp_user id in the user roles tables in Event Espresso, so the admin user (there was only one) didn’t have access to his own events.

Rob (and anyone else having this, or a similar issue):

This is your wp_events_qst_group table. Pay attention to the wp_user column at the end; that’s for the user id of the admin user who has rights to that question group. You can see there’s only 2 question groups and both are assigned to user id 1:

wp_events_qst_group
link

Here’s the problem. This is your wp_users table:
wp_users
Do you see what I see (or don’t see)? There’s no user ID 1. There’s user ID 2 (“rob”), but no user ID 1. Hence, no one has access to those questions, not even you. So you don’t break everything in the entire site, your best bet is to change the wp_user IN THE wp_events_qst_group TABLE to 2 (as opposed to trying to change the ID of “rob” to 1 which will destroy your site and lock you out and cause the sky to fall on your head and you will die, trust me, I’ve done it before and all of that happened).

(as an aside, this is the second time I’ve seen this specific issue, and I suspect it’s happening to a lot more people than that, so it’s probably a good idea to check these two tables if you are having any issues that are related to this.)

Will try to find it
If shows in the data base somewhere I guess

It should just be that wp_events_qst_group table that you need to worry about (for now). I’m not sure how this affects duplicate question groups that you’ve had in the past. It’s possible this was the issue all along (since no one actually had access to those question groups) and we didn’t know what to look for.

I did the user ID edit and got the question groups to work on the two live events we are running right now. All was good till the event admin who authored the event went back in and edited on event. at that point the personal info field dropped off the reg page. I go back in and update the event and the fields return (using admin role). still no options on the email box of the event window
also the default email is not going out to the attendees- i believe it had a link to the invoice

So, Rob, just to confirm — after readding a WordPress user ID 1 to your site, everything works now?

I now have an Admin user 1 and did get the reply email options box in the event window to populate but the events are not showing the personal information fields on the reg form

I have 3 event mamagers all of whom have events activce right now.
all 4 events do not show the personal question group now, even though they did when I had first reset the question group to ID 1

the email options returned at the reset

the payment options page is displaying the paypal button off the bottom of the visible page. You have to scroll to find it. can this be moved up?

Rob (and anyone else with a similar issue), this is what I found on your site:

First of all, since you had previously had a whole bunch of different question groups, you had all of these relationships between the questions and their question groups in your wp_events_qst_group_rel table:

These are your question groups
question groups
link

These are your question group relationships
question group rel

That’s not even necessarily an issue in and of itself since it doesn’t matter if there are questions that don’t exist anymore linking to question groups that don’t exist anymore (though having questions that don’t exist anymore linking to question groups that do exist might be problematic.

However, then I decided to try to see if I could track down what question groups were actually being used on events. I found this:

question_groups

This is in the wp_events_detail table. Note the entries that have N; as their value. What this should be storing is a serialized array with the question groups (based on those IDs) for that specific event. When I cross-referenced the events that weren’t showing the registration form with this column, it was the ones that had an N; in here that had a problem. So I replaced that on those active events with something I copied from the one active event that was showing a reg form (which in your case was a:1:{i:2;s:1:"2";}). So you should be all set for now.

Note: I wouldn’t recommend hacking in your db unless you know what you are doing. Too many interconnected things make it really easy for stuff like this to happen. What I’m guessing happened was that when you went in and deleted all those extra question groups it left those events without any question groups associated with them and replaced the serialized array with N;. Since your Questions and Question Groups pages are restricted to Admin-only, I can’t guarantee this won’t happen again when an Event Admin tries to create an event since they won’t have access to those question groups. The real solution needs to be on our end, to allow events to be universal to all users, so there’s a set of “shared” question groups that can be used by event admins. Seth and I are talking about ways to fix this in an update. Hopefully we can get it out in the next couple weeks.
