permalinks wont work

If I enable permalinks then all my host.com/events/* urls break. All the other permalinks for the site work just fine, but any that contain /events/ will break. I’ve tried all the normal wp permalink troubleshooting.

With permalinks disabled everything on the site works fine.

WP 3.5, latest EE installed. I have “Custom Post Type Permalinks” plugin installed, but it doesnt make any difference if it’s enabled or disabled.

Ideas?

Hi,

What permalink structure are you using? Do you have an example of a permalink that is broken?

Event Espresso should work just fine with any of the default permalink settings (though “pretty” permalinks are preferred) but if some add on / theme change the permalinks in some way it can cause problems

Anything other than the default will cause this behavior. With or without the other plugin installed, makes no difference. Only thing affected are the /events/ urls. Everything else is great.

Do you have an example of a permalink that is broken? Or a link to the site in question?

@tfox,

Do you have the Event Espresso custom post type feature enabled? If so, can you try disabling that feature in Event Espresso>Template settings?

The custom post type feature uses the slug ‘events’, so that would break things if there’s already a page with the same slug.

  • I use only pages, no posts.
  • site.com/pagename is my normal url structure.
  • I have a main EVENTS page site.com/events
  • I have pages for each event with event info and images site.com/events/event-name. The pages use the EVENTS page as a parent.
  • Each event page has links into the EE registration pages.
  • Permalinks are enabled
  • Plugin Custom Post Types is installed and enabled (disabling / removing has no effect on the exhibited behavior).
  • All permalink pages on site work EXCEPT for links that contain /events/ in the url.
  • If I change the permalink name of my main EVENTS page -> site.com/events2 it will work. Something is creating a conflict with the /events/ piece of the url.
  • I suspect that you’ve added something into your EE module that is creating a conflict with the permalinks the pages of my site are using. When I installed about a year ago your module did not support any permalinks of its own.

Ideas?

The custom post type feature set in Event Espresso>Template settings can conflict if there is a page with the slug of ‘events’.

Can you go to http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=template_confg and verify that the “Use the custom post types feature” is set to No?
