People Add-on: can it be used for teacher to student communication?

I’m wondering if the People Add-on can be used for the event host/teacher to communicate with the people who have signed up for the event. But we don’t want to give the teachers full admin access. We’re looking for one-on-one communication, not the whole class. We might want to send grades out this way at the end of the class. Would this work for that kind of thing? Thanks guys!

Hi Shelly,

Actually the People Add-on is for displaying information on the website about class instructors, volunteers, speakers, or anyone else that’s part of the event’s organization. It’s not a communication tool that sends messages.

Can you think of any solution, that would create an account when a user registers for a class, and then can be used as a communication tool? I need to find a solution that will allow the presenters/teachers to communicate with everyone that signed up for their event/class. Thanks Josh!

Hello,

Are the teachers managing the events on their own?

If so, I think the capabilities system could be used to create a restricted login so that a teacher can sent out batch emails to groups of students.

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/event-espresso-4-roles-permissions/

This Google sheet has the various capabilities:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Al0RhqTD8pDfdEhtcFhLdW9rTFdPOWtrODh3d1QyN1E&usp=sharing

Lets say you wanted a specific user with a specific role (e.g. author) to be able to create and edit their own events. These capabilities would be needed and you could use a free plugin like Members from Justin Tadlock to add the capabilities:

ee_read_event
ee_read_private_events
ee_read_events
ee_edit_event
ee_edit_published_events
ee_edit_private_events
ee_edit_events

Actually – I need logins for each student so that they can see their grade & any feedback the teacher has. Not batch emails.

So I need something that automatically creates an account for each person who signs up for a class, that they can log into to get feedback from the teacher. The teacher also has a login and leaves the grades and comments on the students page.

I see several LMS themes that allow for this, I’m just trying to find a plugin solution… hopefully one that integrates with EE. Is there some way when Person Registers for a class, an account is set up automatically?

Hi Shelly,

Have you looked into LearnDash? LearnDash might have this feature and they offer an Event Espresso integration: https://www.learndash.com/work/event-espresso/

Seth,
I am looking into LearnDash now, thank you for the tip. I guess I’m still confused about how come EE4 doesn’t allow student/event registrants to create Accounts upon registration. It seems like if that were possible, a lot of other plugins would help me do what I want to do. Is there any information on when that will be available? Or is there some custom work around that I could pursue?

We are on the cusp of moving away from EE and developing something new through WooCommerce and their set of plugins. I hate to go but I’m frustrated.

Hi there,

The Event Espresso 4 WP User Integration add-on adds a feature that automatically creates a user account for them when they register for an event (if they don’t already have an account) :

Oh! Well, shoot. for some reason I landed on a page that said there wasn’t one for EE4. I’m thrilled! I think this with LearnDash might just save my bacon…

Thanks guys. If I get this figured out, I’ll post my steps so others can have an easier time of it…
