PayPal ‘Business’ account for use with EE. Upon set up, I had only two choices: PayPal Standard or PayPal Pro. PayPal Express was not listed.
Yet, the EE support literature says: “PayPal Standard is no longer supported, so its settings panel is hidden by default. PayPal Express is the recommended alternative.”
I see the note that follows about ‘unhiding’ the standard settings but I am concerned that this is not the best practice.
Am I missing something? What do you recommend?

Huh?
As I said in my support request, PayPal Express was not listed as an account option. We created and configured a PayPal Standard account. Hence my questions.
Your response seems to indicate that our STANDARD account can ‘use PayPal Express’, inferring that Express is not a type of account but a facility included in other accounts. Is that correct?
And, even if I follow the guide that you linked, what should I conclude from the warning that “PayPal Standard is no longer supported, so its settings panel is hidden by default. PayPal Express is the recommended alternative.”?
It is all rather confused.

Express is not a type of account, it’s a gateway. The confusing part of this is PayPal has a “standard” account, and PayPal also has a “standard” gateway, and it’s the standard gateway API that’s deprecated.
In other words, the PayPal Standard account type is not deprecated, it’s current. The PayPal Standard gateway type is deprecated. So when using a PayPal Standard account, your gateway options are PayPal Express gateway or use the PayPal Express with “smart buttons” gateway. The smart buttons gateway is available as an add-on that you can download from your account page.
