PayPal Redirect Error

Hello,
Our patrons are receiving an error when they are redirected from PayPal after their purchase. We have set up the redirect page in PayPal as indicated in the set up. They are also not receiving their emailed tickets. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi,

May I ask what’s the error they’re receiving, and which PayPal payment method are you using? For example is it PayPal Standard, Express, or some other method?

One note about setting up a redirect: You actually don’t need to set up a redirect page in PayPal because Event Espresso 4 sends the redirect URL with the request to PayPal.

We are using PayPal standard. I didn’t get the exact error message from anyone but when they tried to return to our site to finalize after they paid there was an error and most are not getting their email tickets.

Hi there,

The first step to fixing this is to move away from PayPal Standard, we actually deprecated PayPal standard a while ago (it is still included in the plugin and will continue to show/work for users that already have it set up) because of how unreliable PayPal’s IPNs can be.

We highly recommend switching to PayPal Express, it uses the same PayPal account type but does need different credentials from your account, we have documentation on how to get those details here:

Once you have Express set up, run a quick test payment and see if you get an error after payment or if it now works as expected (PayPal Express works in a different way to Standard, so switching can often fix various issues).

Thank you that looks like it solved the problem. We had deactivated Event Espresso for a while and when we reactivated we chose standard instead of express.
