Hi there

I am having a few issues with the PayPal Pro payment gateway.

1. Event espresso seems to save the credentials without encryption, is this normal?

2. When checking out, payment info asks for a state but only US, UK states are displayed.

3. When I enter payment details and press proceed to payment it jumps back up to the top of the page even though all the information including card details are entered. No specific error is given.

Anyhelp would be much appreciated as we were expecting this to be plug and play for PayPal Pro.

Hi there,

May I ask, is this a ‘new’ PayPal account? Or have you relatively recently signed up wot Website Payments Pro to use PayPal pro?

1. Event espresso seems to save the credentials without encryption, is this normal?

Yes.

2. When checking out, payment info asks for a state but only US, UK states are displayed.

The Country’s and States output are based on the settings within Event Espresso.

Event Espresso -> General Settings -> Countries (tab)

Each country has a setting that allows you to set if that country should be displayed on the Country dropdowns (which then also includes the states)

3. When I enter payment details and press proceed to payment it jumps back up to the top of the page even though all the information including card details are entered. No specific error is given.

If you view the EE_Transaction for that registrations, does it show an error on the payment there?

To find this go to Event Espresso -> Registrations, you will see a list of registration made on your events. Find the one you tested the above on and click on the TXN Date field.

You should have a section like this:

Any errors shown in the ‘Gateway response’ field?

A quick sidenote on PayPal pro as I’ve found many users aren’t aware of the PCI requirements for using that type of payment method. PayPal Pro is an onsite payment method, which means your own server handles the card details and then passes them over to PayPal to actually capture the payment, due to the fact that your server has access to those details during the request it would mean to be PCI Compliant you would need to pass the most strict requirements they have.

You may well be aware of the above and be prepared for it, but just noting as from personal experience many users are not.
