At times during registration, we have an issue when it says “abandoned” and yet the paypal payment has actually gone through, although it’s not completing itself in our system. Any thoughts? |
Hi Erin, Could you double-check to see if the PayPal IPN is enabled? That will allow PayPal to update payment information in Event Espresso. Here are the steps on how to do that: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-set-up-paypal-ipn/#paypal — |

Thanks Lorenzo, I’ll do that, but wouldn’t that mean that every PayPal transaction would have the same issue. Most of the PayPal transactions complete, but we have about a few that do not. |
Hello, What version of Event Espresso are you currently using (you can see in your WP plugins screen) and is the IPN for PayPal on? — |

I just recently upgraded to 4.8.43.p, but this occurred in an earlier version. I’m pretty sure the IPN for PayPal is on, but to be honest I’m not able to locate it to confirm. Where would I find that? |
Hi Erin, Yes, if you PayPal IPN’s were disabled none of your PayPal transactions would go through. Before getting into hunting down IPN’s lets start by narrowing this down some. First do you have auto return enabled on your PayPal account? If not enable it and set it to your ‘thank-you’ page (EE overrides whatever value you set for each registration, it just needs a value for PayPal to enable it) Next, these abandoned registrations, if you leave them alone for a while and come back do they update themselves? (If the registrations you are viewing are more than a day old this does not apply) Look within one of these abandoned transactions and look at the PayPal payment within that, what does it show for the ‘Gateway Response’ field? |

Hi Tony, We enabled the auto return on our PayPal account. In terms of the abandoned registrations, they do not fix themselves. Unfortunately I have updated all of the abandoned registrations, but they do show an id in the gateway response field. So it looks as though it has been completed in terms of the purchase, but does not complete in the system. |
Hmm ok. Could you monitor this for a little and on the next registration that this happens to let us know so we can take a look?
There should not be an ID within that field. Would you mind if I had a look at the transaction? I’ll also check the payment method logs to see if that shows any errors. If that’s ok please send temporary login details using this form: |

Hi Tony, We have our next registration this coming Tuesday, so I’ll forward along if it happens again. I do not have any transactions for you to look at as they’ve all been changed since our last registration in March. |
