Hello! I am having trouble completing the Paypal checkout process (currently in Sandbox mode). I can go through the whole process, but receive an error when returning to my site from Paypal, and the payment does not go through:

“An error has occurred:
IPN Validation failed! Paypal responded with ‘WP Error. Code: “http_request_failed”, Message: “error:14077410:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:sslv3 alert handshake failure”, Data: “”‘”
I am hosted by 1and1 and recently purchased an SSL certificate for my domain, as I read that this might be the problem. Any ideas of how to resolve this, and would this problem occur if I wasn’t in Sandbox mode as well?

Hello,
Earlier this year, PayPal introduced a requirement where in sandbox mode, the connection is made over TLS1.2:

Could you reach out to your webhost about double-checking that your server is compatible with those new requirements?

Thank you! I think everything works fine when I take it out of Sandbox mode, which is good enough for the time being. I appreciate your help!

Glad to help! The newer requirements from PayPal for PayPal Standard currently apply to sandbox mode.
