I’m lost here. I am getting what seem to be auto-generated msgs saying my PayPal IPN is not configured. So, I go look in my dashboard settings. I find an item “Payment Settings” but there is nothing on that page but a link inviting me to upgrade if I want more PayPal setting. Why is it saying “more PayPal settings” when there are none at all? Since the event is free and there are no available configurations I can find to charge for the event, even if I wanted to, what’s the point of all that? Moving on . . . I search your old support forum and find someone with the same issue. Here’s the entire answer you gave him. “Try activating the check/money order payment option. If all your events are set up as free, no one will ever hit that screen anyway. Useless useless useless. That is the “instruction” from someone who does not know how to give instructions. It is based upon a huge pile of assumptions, starting with knowing where that setting is found. Real instructions begin with a grounding statement such as, “Go to blah-blah-blah and in the upper right corner click on whatever.” THAT is the start of an instruction. But to say, do this or that without a starting point is like the country boy who tells a lost motorist, “Go down the road here for a while and turn left where the old schoolhouse used to be.” He knows where he is and he is the center of his own universe so he assumes everyone else knows it, too. He does not recognize that no one else knows that universe. Useless useless useless. So now I’ve vented my frustration and totally alienated anyone who might have helped me had I pleaded humbly. But look at it this way, I’m helping you, by making you a better support person, more than you have helped me so far and the least you can do in gratitude is give me some useful instruction. Where and how can I get PayPal to work on my web site? |

September 11, 2012 at 12:47 am Hello Joe, Yes I understand what you are saying here, and no problem sometimes it’s good to vent. Ok, the email you are getting is definitely because Paypal hasn’t been set up, its a friendly reminder. As you are on the free version you should go to Payment Settings. There you should see this screen screenshot See where it says PayPal Settings? Thats actually a button (admittedly that isn’t obvious), click it. Then you will see this screenshot2 Simply by adding your Paypal email into the PayPal ID field at the top and clicking the Update PayPal Settings button at the bottom you have set it up. Obviously there are a few other options you can select too. If you don’t want to use Paypal, but want to stop the email, stick in a fake email in the PayPal Id field. Just remember to change it if you do want to start charging people! Hope that helps. |

September 11, 2012 at 10:53 am Joe, thanks for your rant. It made me laugh, I dislike useless support too, though I find EE’s support is usually quite thorough and they are quick to reply. Dean, thank you for the screen-shots. I got the same email and was wondering why. Instead of having to stick in a fake email there should be a toggle to switch it off. |
September 11, 2012 at 11:08 pm Sorry for the trouble. I think this an old feature that was supposed to be removed. I will create a ticket so I remember to remove it. |
