Paypal Commerce keeps being deactivated

Hello,
We switched to Paypal Commerce as recommended. I am facing 2 issues, first this payment method keeps being deactivated with the warning “The payment method PayPal Commerce was automatically deactivated because it appears its associated Event Espresso Addon was recently deactivated.”.
We use the Payment Methods Pro plugin, and it wasn’t/isn’t deactivated at all. So I have to re-enable the Paypal Commerce method everytime and the same thing would happen again and again.
I see on the Event Espresso add-ons page that there is a ‘Included EE4 Payment Methods’ add-on but it is not on my list to download from my account.
My second issue is that with the previous Paypal Express methods, I was able to capture user informations, but now I don’t have their addresses and mostly the event they signed up for.
Thank you for your help, I am not sure what the conflict is if any, everything is up to date on my install.

Hi there,

The PayPal Commerce is part of the core plugin, not an add-on. So, deactivation is referring to the payment method not the add-on plugin. So, to reactivate, just go to Event Espresso > Payment Methods > PayPal Commerce and re-activate that payment method.

Do you see anything consistent about when the payment method is begin deactivated, such as ruing a transaction or something else? What other Event Espresso plugins do you have activated?

What information are you referring to when you say “user informations”? The attendee information usually captured in the registration step before the payment step as part of the custom registration form questions you set up in advance.

Thank you for the answer and explaining that this is not the a plugin but rather the payment method itself that is being deactivated. I have no clue what triggers this. Still the message “The payment method PayPal Commerce was automatically deactivated because it appears its associated Event Espresso Addon was recently deactivated.” is not very clear.
Here are my event espresso plugin in use:
Event Espresso – Attendee Mover (EE4.9.13+)
Event Espresso – Calendar (EE 4.3+)
Event Espresso – Event App Customization (EE4.9.9+)
Event Espresso – Events Table View Template (EE 4.4.9+)
Event Espresso – Grid View Template (EE 4.4.9+)
Event Espresso – Payment Methods Pro (EE 4.9.32+)

With my previous paypal express set up, we were also able to capture attendee info and event from the paypal payment. But I understand it depends on my own configuration.

Does the PayPal Commerce payment method actually deactivate itself (Event Espresso > Payment Methods > PayPal Commerce), or does it just give you that warning/notice?

As a matter of fact, it only gives a warning but it doesn’t appear as a payment option for the users.

Sorry for the confusion. Last time it happens, a user told us he couldn’t pay with paypal, I went in the backend, I saw the warning, I checked the payment methods and the paypal commerce was still enabled.

So to clarify, do you have the Payment Methods Pro plugin active or not? If you do, can you disable it and test? And, what other payment methods do you have active?

Also, do you have multiple PayPal Commerce payment methods set up to select a specific PayPal Commerce account for specific events?

I don’t have multiple paypal commerce set up.
I have other payment methods, like checks and paypal express quebec, if I deactivated the Payment Methods Pro plugin will it affect the other payment methods?

Hi there,

Whilst Garth’s steps are fine to test, I have another option for this if you are comfortable adding a little PHP to the site.

You can add that to a custom functions plugin and we have some documentation here:

Then, enable WP_DEBUG_LOGGING using this in your sites wp-config.php file:

You will likely already have something like define( 'WP_DEBUG', false );, the above snippet replaces that single line.

What all of that will do, is set your site to add PHP errors within /wp-content/debug.log so we can view them and if a payment method is automatically deactivated, it will add a stack trace of WHAT caused it to deactivate which should help narrow the cause down.
