Paypal Charity – Clear to update?

Hello,

I attempted to upgrade from 5.0.11 last year and was unable to continue due to a Paypal error wherein my Charity account would not connect. (see closed support topic: https://eventespresso.com/topic/paypall-commerce-error/)

We rolled back and have been waiting to hear when we can upgrade. Now I see the notice that we have to update by 4/15/25 or it may stop taking payments. I am not sure if this relates to the version of Event Espresso or our Paypal account.

Has the issue between Event Espresso and Paypal Commerce Charity been resolved? We will have an opening in March to test this without affecting any of our open events, so I would like to get ahead of this if possible. Unfortunately, I do not have a test server setup at the moment.

Hi Matt,

So as far as we are aware, this has been fixed for the majority of users.

However, to clarify why I can’t just give you a yes or no answer to this, the issues with Charity accounts connecting were indeed issues on PayPal’s server and not ours. We reported it to them and they applied a few fixes to prevent it from happening and in general, it does, although we get the occasional report of an account not connecting and the user needs to open a ticket with PayPal who then fix it on their end for that specific user.

We can’t identify which users this happens to beforehand so the only way to know is to try and connect up to PayPal. Updating now and trying to connect up is the best way to test this as you’ll still have access to PayPal Express to as a fall back.

Having said all that; looking at your site, it looks like you are currently using PayPal Commerce?
