Payments Approved through Authorize.net/Show Declined in EE

We’ve recent seen a handful of transactions where people are registering for events, paying through Authorize.net, receiving confirmation emails showing payment is complete, but in our backend it shows Payment Declined.

We’re currently running EE 3.1.33.3.P

Is this an issue that you’ve seen before? If not, what information can I provide to get to this resolved?

Thanks for your help!

There should be a record of the transaction in uploads/espresso/logs/espresso_log.txt. Can you look in there and find the transaction and see what response authorize.net sent?

Sure. Here it is (with personal info deleted)

Had they tried paying within two minutes before this transaction? According to this documentation at Authorize.net they’ll decline a 2nd payment attempt within two minutes:

I can check that out. Out of curiosity, do you think that registering for two separate events with the same price within two minutes would trigger this action?

Also, Authorize.net DID approve the transaction. The user received confirmation that her payment was accepted. The only place it shows as declined was in EE.

Event Espresso will typically only show a declined payment if Authorize.net sends a declined payment response.

I can’t say for certain why it would send your server a declined payment response, unless the first attempt was declined, then the customer tried again and it was accepted, and the accepted response wasn’t sent/did not make it back to your server.
