Payment received but no confirmation email

Hi,

I’ve received a couple of bookings recently where I’ve received notification from Paypal that a payment has been made for an event, but I or the attendee are not receiving confirmation emails from my site.

There are a couple of things in common with these bookings – both have a duplicate booking for that person made a few minutes apart (perhaps they didn’t check out in one of them), and neither have a confirmed address in Paypal. Could this be this issue?

Hi Andrew,

This sounds like there are older templates from a prior version of Event Espresso in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates. Can you try re-naming that directory if there are files in there?

There is a button that will automatically re-name the above directory to allow the updated core Event Espresso templates to load (so the old templates do not override the current version’s templates).

Thanks, I’ll try that and let you know if the issue happens again.

Hi Andrew,

You can actually run a quick test registration and cancel at PayPal to see if this helped.

Thanks Josh but as I said before it doesn’t happen every time.

So now my recurring events theme has stopped working. Is that due to renaming the uploads folder?

You can do this:

Create a new /templates folder, and copy over the event_list.php and event_list_display.php files from the renamed /templates folder. These will be okay. Other templates (like confirmation_display.php) will not work properly if they are from an older version.

Another thing to check for is an active caching plugin. If there’s a caching plugin installed, the main registration page should be set so it is not cached. Most caching plugins will have an advanced setting that will let you disable caching for specific pages.

Moving the events list files fixed it.

Many thanks.

Hi,

This issue is has happened again. i.e. a booking was made and I received the payment received email from Paypal, but the booking shows as payment incomplete in Event Espresso and a confirmation email has not been sent.

I’ve received bookings on this same event and the process has worked fine, so it’s just the odd one that this happens to.

Hi,

Any ideas on this one?

Hi Andrew,

This sounds like the Instant Payment Notification isn’t always making it back to your site. One thing that may help is installing the simplified Transaction page template which you can download here.

https://eventespresso.com/topic/problems-with-incomplete-payments-download/

There are two other possibilities that could also be ruled out:

1) A caching plugin is installed and the pages with the Event Espresso shortcodes are not set to have caching disabled.

2) When someone is registering, they go through the registration process and hit the back button several times after making the registration, then register again. This is a know issue and there is a ticket in our issue tracker to add some user proofing where there will be a check to prevent that from happening.
