Payment Pro Isn't Wokring

I have a Paypal business account which I am trying set up to the Paypal Pro option in EventEspresso. I have verified that I’m using the correct API info from Paypal and I have activated IPN. I am still not able to accept cards and keep getting an error that says payment was declined and payment status is incomplete. What am I missing?

Hi there,

I have a Paypal business account which I am trying set up to the Paypal Pro option in EventEspresso.

A PayPal business account does not mean you can use PayPal Pro, you need to have signed up to the service with PayPal:

https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/pro

Do you pay a monthly fee to PayPal (not your transactions fees) for your account? If not then you can’t use PayPal Pro.

I have verified that I’m using the correct API info from Paypal and I have activated IPN.

PayPal Pro doesn’t use IPN’s as its an onsite payment method (the user remains on your site to pay), meaning you will also handle any PCI compliance (which is not a simple task).

So is it PayPal Pro that you want to use, or PayPal Express?

(PayPal Express is offsite, meaning the user is directed to PayPal, they pay and then return to your site, PayPal handles most/all of the PCI compliance with that setup).

I am still not able to accept cards and keep getting an error that says payment was declined and payment status is incomplete. What am I missing?

If you view one of the registration in the admin, you’ll see a ‘View transaction’ button – http://take.ms/9WfiR

Click that and you’ll see the transaction, at the bottom it will list the payments attempted on that transaction, what does it show in the ‘Gateway Response’ field?

It say “This transaction cannot be processed. The merchant’s account is not able to process transactions.” SO I just need to switch this over to Paypal Express then?

Yes, it looks like your using an account that doesn’t have PayPal Pro enabled.

We have some documentation on how to locates the credentials needed for PayPal Express here:

Add those to Event Espresso -> Payment methods -> PayPal Express and see if the payments work when using that.
