Hi, I am trying to understand the differences between Failed and Declined on payments on EE4. I have searched through documentation and can’t find anything that expresses the differences between these two.

Specifically, I am interested in understanding when the Payment Declined versus the Payment Failed notification email messages will be triggered.

Any reference links or explanation that will help me understand the differences between these two and what the triggering events for the notification emails would be appreciated.

For reference, I am working with a site that processes Checks and Paypal payments. I am not using any other processors at this time.

Thanks,
Matt

I think the payment failed means that nothing was returned from the payment processing agent (ie PayPal) or the customer didn’t finish making the payment. A payment declined message means the payment processing didn’t accept the payment for whatever reason (ie the credit card was declined).

Hope that helps.

Thank you! Makes sense and that is what I needed to understand.
