Past Confirmations sent out again

This morning, we noticed 84 Emails go out from our EE4 install all at once. It’s not everything but everything from this year. It shows in the plugin Messages section that these people got the emails before and were sent again at once, which leads me to believe it isn’t a server issue but an issue originating from inside the app. Is there something that would’ve triggered everything this year to queue for resending?

What could cause this? How can I prevent it (we’ve been running the plugin for years with nothing like this)? Any ideas would very much help me with this.

Hi there,

So we’ve seen this happen maybe a handful of times with EE4 but the problem is no-one can reproduce it so it’s REALLY difficult to track down what is happening.

Event Espresso does not have any functions that will intentionally/randomly retrigger a bunch of messages like this. Obviously, it’s happening somewhere but there is no function within EE that has been designed to do that. So ‘somewhere’ within the messaging system some kind of request has managed to retrigger the resending of messages with a specific request just happening to be in the right circumstances, but no-one knows which request, the payload, which functions, which code ran to trigger it and it doesn’t happen for everyone.

We’ve requested backups of the user’s sites where this happened previously, a full site back from say the the day before the message triggered, set those up in a sandbox environment and tried everything we can to get the same thing to happen, with no success.

Each time it’s happened we’ve reviewed the messaging queue system to try and narrow it down and we’ve tightened controls and conditions but obviously it has still happened for you. I’ll check in with our developers to see if there is anything we can check into as it stands.
