Hi!

We are looking for someone to evaluate our ee3 site with a move to us migrating to ee4 now that most of the add-ons we use appear to be ready.

It’s not a heavily modified site but we do have a custom theme so there may be a bit of css.

We are not technical / got time to set up test sites etc so want to make sure we can make this transition as pain free as possible and utilise the benefits. We do have a dedicated (virtual) server so clone etc is not a huge issue.

Is this something someone is interested in performing and possibly performing the migration too?

Let us know please.

Hi Nick,

I understand that you are looking for someone to work with you on the migration.

I’m replying to share feedback as your support post moves down our support forums as we reply to other posts (my reply will move it back up) and I think it would be helpful to provide an overview of the process for other members that may be interested in migrated.

When members ask about migrating, I check with them on their registration needs. For example, if you have recurring events then Event Espresso 4 isn’t a good fit at this time. If you are not using recurring events but need multiple event registrations, then Event Espresso 4 is a good fit as it has an add-on available for that.

Custom coding & custom templates would be to be re-created for Event Espresso 4 as they do not share templates and the codebase is different.

We have a migration guide that provides more information on what to expect here (eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/#migrate-to-event-espresso-4):

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/#migrate-to-event-espresso-4

In terms of testing a migration, a testing / staging site is the best option. A plugin like Duplicator or WP Migrate DB Pro can be used to create a snapshot of the live site. You’ll then have a separate site where changes can be made and the live site won’t be affected.

Then you can work through any changes before deciding whether to actually migrate the site.

If you have any questions about the migration guide above, then let us know and we’ll share feedback.

Thanks!

Lorenzo

Thanks…. fundamental to our business is recurring events (courses and education) so that’s not a great start! “For example, if you have recurring events then Event Espresso 4 isn’t a good fit at this time” – when will it be?!? Disappointing.

Appreciate that (and have voted) but remain disappointed that such a core function has been left this long.
