Hi,
I’m currently in the process of setting up Event Espresso for a client. We originally began the setup with EE4 but realized that the Volume Discount add-on, which my client needs, is only available in EE3. I’ve installed EE3 and have begun the process of setting up their content.

However, when I had EE4 installed, I was able to do 2 things: specify the page template to use and assign a custom field to the events, via Advanced Custom Fields, that would allow me to specify a custom CSS class for the event.

Under Template Settings, I have “Use the custom post types feature?” set to Yes. In Advanced Custom Fields, I have a rule that says to show the field if the Post Type is equal to ‘Event’. But, my custom field doesn’t appear on the Event add/edit screen.

So, I have 2 sets of questions:
1. In EE3, how do I specify the template to use? Is the only option in EE3 to follow this document: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/put-custom-templates/?

2. How can I get Advanced Custom Field options to appear on the Event Add and Edit screens?

Thank you,
Jeff

Hi there,

In EE3 events are not custom post types, the ‘Use the custom post types feature?’ in short creates a standard post and copies the EE content into that post so that you can use that post for some setups. It is also why this is happening:

Under Template Settings, I have “Use the custom post types feature?” set to Yes. In Advanced Custom Fields, I have a rule that says to show the field if the Post Type is equal to ‘Event’. But, my custom field doesn’t appear on the Event add/edit screen.

The event isn’t a custom post, its an event within EE that creates a custom post when you create/update an event.

So, I have 2 sets of questions:
1. In EE3, how do I specify the template to use? Is the only option in EE3 to follow this document: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/put-custom-templates/?

Yes, loading your own custom templates you can custommise the event details.

2. How can I get Advanced Custom Field options to appear on the Event Add and Edit screens?

You can’t, at least not without some in-depth customizations.

EE4 uses custom post types for Events (along with our own custom tables) which is why you have access to all of the ‘standard’ features of posts such as templates and ACF compatibility.

What kind of setup are you looking to use the Volumen Discount for? You can achieve some pricing setups with the ticket selector and min/max settings on tickets.

Tony,
Thanks for the feedback.

My client, who offers classes, needs a volume discount on the total price in the cart. EE4 did not appear to support this functionality. If someone purchases X dollar amount of classes, whether its of a single class or multiple classes, they should receive Y percent off of the cart total.

Yeah, that’s correct EE4 doesn’t support that setup. You could manually apply discounts and resend the payment link but its much more admin work and not very user-friendly that way. (We do have this kind of use case on our roadmap for EE4)

For that setup, you would need to use EE3.

If you let me know what your trying to change I can advise how/if you can do that within EE3.
