Oversold tickets

My client runs singles events where she wants to limit the number of tickets sold to men and women, to achieve a balance. She has run into an issue of overselling to one group or the other.

Using EE4, she has set the Event Datetimes limit to 30, then created 2 ticket types (one for men, one for women) and set the quantity for each to 14.

However, she has sold 19 tickets to women (so far).

How can she set it up to ensure she doesn’t oversell to one group?

Hi Moz,

Hi there a single datetime with 2 tickets setup like you have above should prevent overselling of an individual ticket type.

Which version number of EE4 are you using?

Which payment method are you using on the event?

Can you link me to the event so I can take a look?

EE 4.9.34.p

https://www.dare2date.com.au/events/speed-dating-for-42-55-2/

Overview of settings: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9b31bixo0nyhb1h/Edit%20Event%20%E2%80%B9%20Dare%202%20Date%20%E2%80%94%20WordPress.png?dl=0

NB my client has manually changed the tickets available at the front end, to prevent further overselling.

On a separate note – This warning appears in the admin area too:

“Your support license key is only valid for one domain at a time, and our licensing system has detected that you are using your license key on multiple domains. Please log in to your Event Espresso account to manage your Support License Keys, or if you have concerns, please Contact Us.”

I think it’s because we moved her to an SSL recently. Other than the https, it’s the same site.

Are you hiding the ‘Rsrvd’ column within the ticket/datetime editor?

You should have something like this – http://take.ms/ylztk

Its fine if your hiding them, but 4.9.34.p should show them by default, if not them something is amiss with the install.

I ran a test registration and can see your using the PayPal standard payment method, I’d highly recommend updating to use PayPal Express:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/paypal-express-payment-gateway/

Same account type but you need different login details to use it, however its much more reliable than standard as it doesn’t use PayPal’s IPNs.

Do you have multiple registrations made around the same time on the event?

I have reset your license key.

You’ll need to go to Event Espresso -> General Settings.

Remove the license key (cut), save the settings, replace the key (paste) and save the settings once more. Be sure to check for whitespace before/after the key before saving.

You will also receive an email with these instructions.

Confirming we’re not hiding “reserved” as far as we’re aware, and it’s definitely not showing in admin, even when we adjust the admin view to 1 column so there’s heaps of space.

I can’t see any bursts of activity. Payment wise, there are 2 options: Paypal Std and Bank Transfer.

I counted off the registrations. If I remove the ones shown as “incomplete” (whether “pending payment” or “approved”) and those marked “complete” but also “declined” or “cancelled”, I’m left with 17 female tix sold. 3 of these paid with bank transfer, the others used Paypal. Coincidence that this leaves 14? Alternatively: 3 of these customers bought a pair of tickets, the others bought 1 ticket. Something in that?

Thanks for changing the key – all good on that issue now.

So have you customized the event editor at all? Hooking into EE with custom code?

It’s the registration status that matters in terms of the events sold values.

Approved registrations (regardless of their transaction status) apply to the event and so apply to the events sold values.

It’s a little hard to follow what your doing here is it seems your mixing registration and transactions stati.

How many ‘Approved’ registrations do you have on the ticket?

No, nothing has been customised. It’s an out of the box EE build.

Total approved registrations against that ticket type is 19. 2 of these are showing as “Approved” but also “Incomplete”. The 2 incomplete ones are Paypal transactions.

Hi Moz,

That was one of the common problems with the PayPal Standard gateway and that’s why the PayPal Express gateway has replaced it. If you switch the site to use the PayPal Express gateway you’ll avoid the condition where PayPal Standard would sometimes cause one sold ticket to count as two.
