Optional Question(s) to add to the Wait List "Join Now" popup window

I created an additional group of Phone Number, to be able to capture a phone number on one or more of our events. I have an event which is sold out, but when the wait list menu is displayed, the additional question group is not shown, just Name, Email, Preferred Option, and Qty fields are shown.

I went back and checked the box for Phone Number in Personal Questions group, and then unchecked the Optional Question Group for Phone Number in my event, and retested, and the Wait List popup window still does not display.

I tried it on a different browser that has not been to this event page, so there should not be an issue with caching, I wouldn’t think.

Hi there,

I created an additional group of Phone Number, to be able to capture a phone number on one or more of our events.

EE has a system question for Phone number and when you use that question the phone number gets assigned to the EE Contact EE generates with the registration. Using a custom question in a custom groups means that your phone number question will be saved as a custom registration question and not be used throughout EE.

So, may I ask, why are you not using the EE system question for phone?

I have an event which is sold out, but when the wait list menu is displayed, the additional question group is not shown, just Name, Email, Preferred Option, and Qty fields are shown.

The waitlist form doesn’t use the question groups on your event, it only collects the above information.

It is possible to add an additional question, but it’s not as simple as it seems because you need to assign the registration questions to that registration and that’s all usually done within the Single Page Checkout (SPCO for short) process and you’ll need to handle that yourself when saving the waitlist form.

However, because of the EE Contact relationship I mentioned above, it’s easy to add the phone number question to the form as it saves to the Contact, not the registration if you use the default phone EE system question. We actually have a snippet for that here:

https://github.com/eventespresso/ee-code-snippet-library/blob/master/addons/eea-wait-lists/tw_ee_add_registrant_phone_to_waitlist_form.php

You can add that to a custom functions plugin on your site, we have some documentation on creating one here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/create-site-specific-plugin-wordpress-site/

I went back and checked the box for Phone Number in Personal Questions group, and then unchecked the Optional Question Group for Phone Number in my event, and retested, and the Wait List popup window still does not display.

The default phone EE system question will only display for the ‘Personal Information’ or ‘Address Information’ question group, but all of your custom question can be selected in any group.

So is the phone question you selected the default EE system one or your custom question?

(Again note that either way, it wont show up on the waitlist form without using the snippet, but I recommend you use the EE system question for phone number)

We hadn’t planned on asking for Phone Number on the registration form for our events, but we can do that and then use the suggestions for incorporating it into the Wait List form.

Thanks for the prompt and detailed response. It is much appreciated.

Ah, ok.

If you don’t need to collect the phone number question one the reg form and just the wishlist then you can just use the snippet to add that to the form.

The wait list form is totally separate form the reg form questions.
