OpenStreetMap instead of Google Maps

Are there any plans of switching from Google Maps to OpenStreetMap?
Or providing the option to decide which API to use (GMaps or OTM)?

With the new pricing model from Google for the Maps API usage we are actually thinking of disabling maps in like venue view, event view, static api calls in emails etc., because it can get pretty expensive rather fast.

Hi,

There are no current plans to remove Google Maps.

There are ways to reduce API usage. For example instead of putting the map in the emails, there’s a shortcode you can use to display a link. e.g. this is in the current version’s default Registration Approved email template:

<a href="[GOOGLE_MAP_URL]">Map and Directions</a>
