Notification email sometimes not getting generated

We’ve had a few incidents from time to time, in which a Pending Payment notification should have been sent to our admin, but is not.

In the latest incident, a group of people were registered for an event on September 21 as a pending payment. The sample people were registered again on the 22nd (we’re not sure why, but that’s a different issue relating to users realizing they were registered) as a pending payment.

Our admin received an email notification about the registrations on the 22nd, but there is no email from the 21st – not even an email with a Failed status or a Queued for Generating or a Queued for Sending… it just never got started.

The registrations from the 21st got recorded (as did another set on the 22nd), but there’s no record anywhere of an email being generated on the 21st.

In this case, the registrations got done a second time and we were alerted by the second email, but in other cases we get surprised by a registration when we look in EE because there was never any email generated.

Doesn’t happen very often, but it’s concerning.

I should add that we always get Payment Received notifications.

Hi Linda,

What likely happened there is they didn’t select a payment method and finalize the registration, effectively abandoning the registration process. The Pending Payment email will trigger only if they’ve finalized the registration.

These registrations are getting recorded though, Josh – so would that means it’s possible to not select a payment method/not finalize registration, and still get into the EE system as a registration?

Yes. When they submit the registration form the registration is recorded to the database, but the registration isn’t finalized until the next step (payment option) is completed. The exception being a free event where no payment is made.
