I stopped receiving emails whenever anyone registered. They were sent before April 3, 2015, but then they suddenly stopped.

Hi Remery, try setting up a transactional email service like Mandrill or Postmark App:

They will take over sending of emails from your local mail server which may have been recently changed by your web host.

After searching this topic on your forum and reading that several others are having the same problem receiving emails that I am experiencing, I find it difficult to believe that the problem lies with all of our servers. Frankly, I do not want to have to add a transactional email service when this has been working for over four years now. Our event is in two weeks so I am not going to take a chance changing anything at this point. It seems to me that there is another answer. What has changed that could cause all of us to need a transactional email service?

Hi, I had a similar discussion with a member last week so we can also go through those steps here.

1) We have not changed how Event Espresso sends notifications.

It uses a native function from WP called wp_mail which uses the local mail server. This means that Event Espresso itself does not send out those emails, rather your local mail server does.

2) Have you recently installed any new WP plugins on your site? Or perhaps a team member has?

3) Are regular WordPress notifications such as password resets received?

Hi there,

I understand not wanting to add another plugin to your site. However, when we have tested this issue with other customers, we find that no emails are being sent from their site, not just Event Espresso emails. This lets us know that the issue is not caused by Event Espresso. Either another plugin or changes to your mailserver have caused the problem. This is why we recommend Mandrill. More times than not, this usually resolves the issue.

If you are using EE3, please make sure that the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode is on a page that is active and not private. Also, make sure that the critical pages are correct in Event Espresso > General Settings.

We are using Event Espresso 4.4.10.p.

I am the only person with access to the website or EE and I have not installed any plug ins. i have not had any notifications, but I rarely get any so that may not be a valid test of the email system. With our main event in two weeks I am not anxious to change anything but it is curious that it just stopped suddenly on April 3, 2015. Before that I was getting those confirmation emails every time.

Hi,

We aren’t saying that you made any changes. You host can make changes to the mailserver without notifying you. This would not affect only your site, but all sites on that server. This is a common issue with WordPress and the wp_mail() function.

I personally stopped receiving emails on one of my clients’ sites during an open registration period. I registered a free account at mandrillapp.com, installed the WP Mandrill plugin, and within minutes had emails processing again. Mandrill and WP Mandrill make for a better overall user experience when it comes to your website sending emails. We wouldn’t recommend it otherwise. 🙂

I understand, but both Seth and Josh can attest to my (lack of) WP and EE prowess. Thanks!

Hi Rick,

This sort of thing can happen, and it will can be from a change in either your web hosting account’s mail server. So what happens is Event Espresso generates the email, hands it off to a WordPress mail sending function, then when it hits the mail server it doesn’t get delivered.

You can check with your host to see if someone from their support staff can troubleshoot the mail server for your hosting account.
