Automatic update to v3.1.30P failed with the error message “Update failed due to missing /evente-spresso/index.php. Although index.php was there. I had to ftp, delete 3.1.29P and manually upload the new version.

Well… it update 3.1.30P is a mess. Now my Event View page shows only [ESPRESSO_EVENTS]. Here is the link http://www.shaadiconnections.com. I am reverting to version 3.1.29P because we have an event in a two weeks, and people are buying tickets everyday.

After reverting to 3.1.29, I tried again the upgrade same issue upgrade fails. I noticed the eventespresso.tmp directory in my wp-content/plugin. The event-espresso was gone. Apparently upgrade is failing half way through.

Hi there,

I’m sorry for the trouble. It may be an internet connection issue on your end. I would suggest manually downloading the latest version of Event Espresso from your account page, then doing a manual update. You’ll need to deactivate and delete 3.1.29 from your server before uploading the new version.

Josh,
I thought of Internet connection issue, therefore I had already tried manually downloading new version, deleting the 3.1.29, then uploading the 3.1.30. Same issues. The event view page shows only [ESPRESSO_EVENTS], though in Admin Panel it works.

Josh,
I gave it another try,
1) Manually donwloaded 3.1.30.1P
2) Deactivate and Delete the 3.1.29 from server.
3) FTP the 3.1.30.1P to the sever
4) Activate the 3.1.30P
Although in Admin Panel it works, but Event View page shows only shortcode [ESPRESSO_EVENTS]. I gave up on version 3.1.30.1P it does have some issues. Neither automatic nor manual upgarde work properly.

Hi Suhaib,

Sorry for the trouble, we did find something wrong with the zip file and we’ve uploaded a fresh copy. I’d recommend giving it one more go to see if that helps.

That did not help either. I downloaded. The new zip is of 1/31/13 made at 11:20 AM. Delete old version after deactivating, upload the version by ftp activate. Still only shortcode [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] is displaying on the page, instead of events list. People attempting to buy tickets have already started complaining. I am going back to version 3.1.29.1P. Until you trace the issue and fix it. 3.1.29.1P works perfect, so I assume there are bugs in 3.1.30.1P or some weird behavior on my system.

HI Suhaib,

There may be something unique to your system that’s affecting this. There was a change in Event Espresso 3.1.30 that fixed an incompatibility with the Jetpack plugin that affected the way Event Espresso processes the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcodes. We’ve tested the fix over the last month and didn’t find any issues (with or without Jetpack installed). There may be another plugin that conflicts with the shortcode processing. That’s where I’d start to look.

Can you let us know which plugins are active on your site?

I am on Genesis theme, therefore 4 genesis related plugins, Jetpack, lightbox plus, custom login, and event espresso plugins from premium package. I disabled all the plugins except event espresso and its add-ons. The problems persists. Thus, I am not sure it is related to other plugins, unless one of your add-on is conflicting with it.

To rule out issues with Genesis Framework and its child theme Decor, I switched to TwentyTen theme, deactivated all the plugins, except event-espresso, and problem persists. So I better stay with 3.1.29.1, then annoying the people trying to purchase tickets with event registration on/off game.

Hi Suhaib,

Thanks for checking on that.

Is the page with the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode that you’re having problems with set as the main registration page in Event Espresso>General Settings>Page Settings?

Hmmmm… interesting catch. The main registration page is event_view. It was set as the main registration page in the Settings. The 3.1.30.1P upgrade changes it to “Event Registration” page, which does not exists. Reverting to v3.1.29.1P restores the original settings, with the right registration page, i.e. “event_view”. After upgrading, I reset it to correct registration and saved the settings. Now it works.
I am not sure what is causing the loss of settings during upgrade.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for reporting back. We can look into the issue with the setting change. That shouldn’t be happening.
