I’ve ensured the email address is correct for the event author, the default email for notifications and even edited all the messages for the admin email to be the specific, desired address. But no admin notifications were being received. I then registered myself to test and did not receive my registrant email. Additionally, I changed the status of the registration, selecting “Send Related Message?” each time and none of the emails were sent. We’re using WP 4.0, EE4 with no add-ons. This is a new installation. |
Hi Mark, Could you give a transaction email service a try? https://eventespresso.com/wiki/postmark-app-mandrill-transactional-email-handling-services/ Mandrill and Postmark app are two good options for this. — |

I have EE 3.1.33.3.P running on another site perfectly with no purchases for email systems needed. Additionally, I know my wordpress installation on this new site will send emails (the contact form is working fine). Before we look at having to buy an add-on or email service for transactional emails, can you tell if there a reason Event Espresso will not send emails? Is this something new in EE4 that emails won’t send even a single purchase receipt without an add-on service? (i could understand if the site were handling 1000s of emails, but it won’t even send 1 email for 1 registration) |
Event Espresso (both EE3 and EE4) simply passes the content of the emails to wp_mail() which then passes it onto your server, which can do any number of steps. The difference between EE3 and EE4 emails (and also the likely the contact form emails) is that EE4 sends HTML emails as opposed to plain text emails that EE3 sends. So what may be happening is EE4 tries to send the email, wp_mail() passes the email to your server, which may be refusing to send the email based on the HTML/CSS contents. Whilst your host offers emails as a convenience, most hosts are not email service providers, they just simply set up the server to allow emails to be sent (which is very different) so generally we find that email issues such as these are down to server configuration. You could contact your host and ask them to investigate this further if you prefer. Unfortunately whilst it is very simple to send emails, hosting providers will generally apply multiple aggressive filters to prevent spam being sent from their server (and subsequently having their IP address blacklisted) However using a service such as Mandrill (which is free for up to 12k emails per month) allows you to remove your server from the equation. Mandrill rely on their servers being set up correctly, and that you can send your emails correctly, meaning you can be fairly certain they will set everything up correctly.
EE4 does send emails without any add-on service out of the box, it just depends if your server allows them through or not. The support team all have multiple test sites setup across multiple different hosting providers (from the ‘cheap and cheerful’ to the ‘expensive and feature rich’) most of which are not using email service add-on’s although some needed to. Can I ask which host are you using? |
