Hi there. I’m looking at using Event Espresso for an upcoming event (6 months away). Being based in New Zealand we have a very limited number of payment gateways available to us. Paypal is pretty awful to use. Stripe hasn’t arrived in New Zealand yet (not far off). Braintree has just launched here and I’ve reached out to Mijireh.com to find out when their Braintree support will be extended to New Zealand. Right now though our best option is most likely to use one of our existing local payment gateways – SwipeHQ.com. My question: Is the Event Espresso source freely viewable? Not obfuscated? It would be great if we can take an existing payment gateway module as a base and code our own SwipeHQ payment gateway for Event Espresso for our own use and potentially other SwipeHQ users. Thanks! |

Hi Phill, EE3 has maybe a one or two NZ gateways, e.g. eWay. OK so 1 🙂 EE4 doesn’t have anything similar unfortunately. EE’s code is NOT blocked/obfuscated/otherwise hidden, though we do use some Base 64 in certain places but it is for a very specific reason and not intended to stop people from viewing the code. Code is GPLv2 licensed. Using an existing gateway as a base is something we actively recommend, though please note we cannot support custom developed code. We also have some (technical) guides for custom gateways in EE4 http://developer.eventespresso.com/docs/ee4-payment-method-development/ (we have some for EE3 too if that’s the direction you’re taking). You might also want to check out our Github account as there is lots of useful stuff there https://github.com/eventespresso |
Hi there Phill, I wanted to let you know that our developers are responsive and could answer questions for you regarding writing a new payment gateway on GitHub. Here is an example where our developers shared feedback and provided some example coding to help with development of a new payment gateway (e.g. AuthorizeNet DPM): https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-core/issues/108 — |

Hello again Phill, I wanted to provide an update on your request for a Braintree payment gateway. Braintree is now supported for Event Espresso 4 and it will allow you to process payments via a credit or debit card as well as through PayPal. https://eventespresso.com/product/eea-braintree-gateway/ — |
