Hi! New user here. Following the Quick Start Guide, I was able to create my first event easily. But now what? It is in Event Espresso, but not on my website. I thought there were short codes to help list events on other pages. I can’t find any information on them. The old event plugin the site was using is now broken. You have great information about creating an event, but I’m missing the big picture piece. I’m so lost at this moment that I don’t even know what to ask in the forums. I need an overview of how this plugin works with the WordPress site. |

OK. I figured part of this out. I needed to update the slug in Events>Template tabb. |

Hi there, Events created within Event Espresso are ‘custom post types’ which means they display in a similar fashion to how ‘posts’ will on your site. Whilst there are some shortcodes to output events lists etc (
The output of that list is actually controlled mostly by your site’s theme, so I can’t tell you exactly how that will look as I simply don’t know. We simply hook into the loop used to display the ‘posts’ (in this case events) and inject additional event details into that. The reason for this is it keeps events looking similar to the rest of your site. Single events will be output on
That setting changes the above, so now your default event list will be whatever you set the slug to be on that page and the single event view will also use that at the beginning. May I ask, what is it you are currently trying to do? |
|
Now that I figured out the slug, I’m trying to figure out if I can assign categories and display events only in a certain category using shortcodes. |
|
Yes, you can. You can create categories in Event Espresso -> Events -> Cateories (tab). That will also give you the shortcode you need to list out the events in that category. When you create the event you can set the categories in the sidebar (you can also add categories there is you prefer) – https://monosnap.com/file/wsTVBuGRTQz2uY61YeWi62CI2Ft4qw So, assign the event to the category (or multiple categories) then use the shortcode shown on the tab I mentioned above to output those events. That help? |

Yes, it helps and it leads to the next question: Why is the display different between the events page and pages with the short code? Events Page: Weekend Workshops Page (with Short Code): Do I need to be careful about the size of the graphics I use? Thanks for all your help! –Jan |

Another question about the short codes: |
|
Because the /events/ output is from your theme, not directly from EE. The shortcode uses a template within EE, so it differs.
It depends what you mean here, careful in what way?
You can remove some details in Event Espresso -> Events -> Templates -> Event list pages (note its all EE event lists), some you’ll need to hide with CSS. The date information is already showing, is there something different you want to show with the dates? |
