NEED DISCOUNT PROMO CODE HELP ASAP!

Our event is supposed to give a 50% discount using PROMO CODE – GFBC2013, which does applies (half the time) when you enter it on screen where you choose the amount of tickets.  After that, it takes you go to the next screen where you enter in personal info.  HOWEVER, after that screen, it brings you to your Payment Overview Page which DOES NOT show the discount at all!  I need help asap because I have an event that will begin being marketing TONIGHT at a church!

Also, when someone attempts to register (we did trial runs trying to make sure it works), it shows us as attendees multiple times even though we did not pay!  How do I fix that too?  I don’t need a person showing as attending if they didn’t pay!

Hello

I tested the discount code out various times and the discount was visible every time.

Screen shots – http://d.pr/i/WFee and http://d.pr/i/9y0A and http://d.pr/i/YAvo

When testing were you using a particular browser or did you notice the errors more in one browser than another?

Regarding the attendees. If they get to the confirmation page they are automatically added to the database regardless of whether they complete payment or not. This is expected behaviour as it allows business owners to follow up on failed registrations to either capture the customer or gather feedback.

not really.  We tried it on chrome first, then firefox.  Both had the same issues…  Did you happen to use all caps?  If so, I have noticed that it works almost every time with all caps, but lowercase is hit and miss.  Any way to put a message underneath the Coupon Code area to enter in all caps?  I just would hate for someone not to finish registering because it didn’t show a discount…  I don’t have screenshots but I even had it take the promo code discount then throw up a message in red saying the code was now invalid…  That was on the page where you enter the promo code before the page you gave screenshots of…  Again, if you can let me know where to add that message to, i’d appreciate it.  It would make me feel better about it.  Thanks!

Hi,

OK, this is strange, I have been sat in a meeting typing a capitalised promo code in lowercase into a test server for quite some time and have so been unable to recreate the issue.

You can add a message by either editing the template files or by using the translation system to change the Coupon code wording to something like “coupon code (in caps)”.

Regarding “red saying the code was now invalid…” it normally happens due to the sessions getting confused (due to repeated testing) so a cache clear should resolve it.

The “red saying the code was now invalid” was seen on a computer that had never ever tried to signup…  I asked someone other than myself to sign up for multiple reasons…  one being that I wanted to know if it was easy to follow the directions and sign up…  another was because of the caching issues…  But if you cannot replicate it, maybe it’s fixed.

Which template file would I edit to change the coupon code woding in?  Or what exactly is the translation system way?   I’ve only edited the php files before…

Instead of directly editing template files to change the wording (which can cause problems the next time the software is updated) you can use an application like poedit and change the string once:

Thanks!  I’ll add the ALL CAPS info using Poedit.  Here is what happens when lowercase is entered into the promo code area.  I got a screenshot of it this time from another persons computer.  First it gives a message that promo code has been applied…  Then it gives this:

Hi Audrea,

I’ve seen it happen where some web servers will handle things differently if there is a mix of capital letters and lower case letters where there needs to be an exact match. In this case, I recommend sticking with all caps so you don’t run into this issue. It’s a fairly common design pattern to use all capital letters with no spaces for promo codes.
