wordpress 3.7
Event Espresso 3.1.35.2
Multi Events Registration v. 1.1.7.1

I am not an experienced Event Espresso user, but a web designer trying to help a client. I updated to their Event Espresso to 3.1.35.2 and for them last night and some problems have arisen.

Problem 1: An apparently random number of events from the last year were showing up in the list of events, even though their end dates were long past. In going back through the events on the Event Overview page, nearly all of the past events have a status of “Open” but only a few of them are showing up on the page. I edited the pages that were showing up manually with the “Is this an active event?” toggle to make them inactive, and they disappeared from the event-list page on the site, though they still show a status of “Open” on the Event Overview page in the Dashboard.

Problem 2: Out of the 9 events scheduled over the next two months, only two of them are showing up on the website, though they all have a status of “Open”, their end dates are in the future, and the “Is this an active event?” button is switched to “Yes”.

What happened and how do I fix it?

Hi thunter,

Issue 1)
This is likely the registration_end dates are set after the event_end date.

An events ‘status’ is determined using the registration dates and also the event dates. If the registration_end date is set after the event_date, that event will remain ‘Open’ until that date has passed.

So take this example http://d.pr/i/1HuB

That event would remain open until 2013-10-31 even tho the event passed on 2013-09-01. This is actually a feature and not a bug but in your case is not something you need.

The quick fix is to do as you have and set the event to not be active. Unfortunately this causes some issues elsewhere which is what I suspect issue 2 is (more on this below).

The cure is to go through the events and set the registration_end dates correctly for the events. In most cases the registration_end will match either the event_start date or the event_end date (some multi day events continue allowing attendees to register during the event)

This is usually caused from incorrect settings in the Recurring Events Manager (REM) when creating the events. If this is the case the fix can simply be done on the entire ‘event series’ in one go. If REM was not used each individual event would need to modified.

If you would like, one us can take a look and tell you the best option to fix this. If so please send admin log-in details using https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

Issue 2)
The page linked containing your events looks as if it is using the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode, I’m guessing at saying I think it has a ‘limit’ attribute also.

If so this is the issue mentioned above, ‘not_active’ events are included but not displayed so say we have a limit of 9 but have 7 previous events set as not_active those 7 events are included in the limit so we only see 2 events.

If you go to http://erwow.org/blog/event-registration you can see all the events there. (including previous events)

Again if you would like to send login details using the form above we can check more into this also.
