Sometimes an attendee wants to give us different e-mailaddresses to keep him updated (for example work and personal e-mailaddress). Obviously I can create an extra personal item field “e-mail 2”, but the automatic messages are not sent to this extra e-mailaddress. I also tried to use ; to seperate different e-mailaddresses, but this doesn’t seem to work.

Thank you

Manuel

Yes. You go to Event Espresso > Messages > Default Message Templates. Then you go to edit the Event Admin context of the Registration Approved message type.

There, you’ll see a CC field along with a To: field. You can input an email address into each of those fields. There’s more information, along with screenshots, here:
https://eventespresso.com/wiki/messages-system-working-with-message-contexts/

The other option that your customer can do is to make a forwarder and Automatically forward Gmail messages to another account.

Thanks

Hello Rio, thank you very much for your response. However this is not wat I mean. The instructions above are clear for me, but this is to e-mail always to the same e-mailaddress in to or cc.

In our use case the attendees have sometimes multiple e-mailaddresses that they want to give to keep them updated on an event registration. So sometimes they want to give 2 mail-addresses (or more) for 1 registration.

Sending emails to multiple addresses is possible, however, it working depends on the mail server, which is where this comes in:

I also tried to use ; to seperate different e-mailaddresses, but this doesn’t seem to work.

Could work, or separating them using a comma , could work, it depends what the mail server is set up to use.

When you say the above doesn’t work, what happened?

The way to do this within messages the way you are requesting is to use a custom registration field and then use the [RECIPIENT_ANSWER_*{question_text}] shortcode to pull that value in.

So to give an example, I could set the TO field to be:

[RECIPIENT_EMAIL], [RECIPIENT_ANSWER_*email 2]

Which will parse to the recipient emails and then the value set within a ’email 2′ question.

You mentioned ‘or more’ email addresses and I guess the only question I have to that would be where do you draw the line there?

At some point the user needs to take responsibility for using their own email address, do you just start spaming 4/5/6 email addresses with registration emails because the user wants it? Personally I wouldn’t.

Hello Tony, I have just tested this, an both , and ; are not allowed in the e-mailadress input field. Within Event Espresso you get a validation error that there is a character that is not allowed in an e-mailadress.

I will try to work with an extra field for the extra e-mailaddresses.

Which email address field are you getting the validation error on?

Hello Tony, on the mail E-mailaddress question field. See attachment.

Oh! Yeah, you’re not going to be able to add it to that field, its used for more than just the to field for the emails.

You’ll need to add another field to the reg form to collect an ‘additional email address’ and then call that shortcode in the message templates.

Go to EE -> Registration form -> Questions.

Add an ‘Additional Email’ text question.

Set it to a group used on the event.

Edit the Registration Approved email message template sent to the registrant.

In the ‘To’ field set it to be:

[RECIPIENT_EMAIL], [RECIPIENT_ANSWER_*Additioanl Email]

(Assuming you use ‘Additional Email’ as the questions ‘question text’ value)

The user needs to enter their ‘main’ email in the reg form email field, then their ‘additional’ email in the above.
