Just started registration for an event, and both the registrants and I are getting loads of confirmation emails.
I searched some old topics and tried installing the WP-Mail-SMTP plugin, but for some reason I’m getting the following error. I know the username and password are correct. I typically get most of my registrations in the first 48 hours so this could be hundreds of emails getting sent out today, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection timed out (110)
You might try another method of sending emails if you can’t get the SMTP plugin to work. One option is use Mandrill with our Transactional email plugin you can download from your account page if you opt in to the pre-release channel.
Another thing to look into is the IPN logs. For example if you’re using PayPal, and PayPal’s IPN isn’t getting a confirmation of receipt, it will send it again and again. If emails are going out each time the IPN hits your server, multiple emails will go out because the email can be set to go out when the payment is made, which is triggered by the IPN.
This issue was resolved by setting the Event Espresso transactions page and thank you pages from “Private” to “Public”. In this case setting the transactions page to “Private” disrupted the communication from PayPal. Since PayPal wasn’t getting a confirmation of reciept, the Instant Payment Notifications continued to be sent from PayPal. This caused multiple confirmation emails to fire since the confirmation email was set to be sent on notification of payment.
